Heavy Diesel Mechanic $64.39 per hour | 9 Day Fortnight | Temp to Perm Opportunity Location: Government Department, O’Connor An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Heavy Diesel Mechanic to join the Fleet Workshops team in O’Connor. This is a 3-month casual assignment with potential to transition to permanent employment for the right candidate. What’s on Offer $64.39 per hour (inclusive of 25% casual loading) Super 9-day fortnight (76 hours per fortnight) Approx. 8.4 hours per day Standard hours: 7:30am – 4:30pm Work with a highly respected emergency services organisation About the Role You will undertake servicing, repairs and maintenance to fleet vehicles and associated equipment, including: Heavy firefighting vehicles Hand-held firefighting equipment Breathing apparatus Oxy-viva and rescue equipment Key Responsibilities Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, servicing and repairs (mechanical, auto-electrical, fabrication/body building) Complete acceptance testing and pre-delivery inspections in line with Australian Standards Adhere to maintenance schedules, labour targets and modification requirements Source and manage spare parts and consumables Operate overhead cranes, hoists and forklifts Conduct vehicle recovery and movements Ensure quality standards from external service providers Complete worksheets, inspection reports and documentation Assist with equipment control and dispatch Provide recommendations to improve servicing, scheduling and cost controls Communicate progress updates and escalate issues where required Provide technical advice and training internally and externally Actively participate in risk management and WHS practice Essential Requirements: Unrestricted Heavy Rigid (HR) Licence (must remain valid) Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology, Engineering – Fixed & Mobile Plant, Mobile Plant Technology, or equivalent Extensive experience working on: Heavy vehicles with hydraulic and pneumatic systems Electro-hydraulic systems Heavy-duty diesel engines and automatic transmissions Ability to work both autonomously and within a team Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills Experience with quality assurance practices and processes
