About the opportunity An exciting opportunity to join DPIRD’s Detector Dog Unit as a Detector Dog Handler, undertaking inspection and compliance activities that safeguard WA’s primary industries. We are seeking to establish a pool of suitably qualified applicants for the role of Senior Quarantine Inspector (Dog Handler). There is currently one (1) permanent full-time position available for immediate filling. This vacancy is based at the Perth Domestic Airport and is a shift work position, with applicable shift penalties paid in addition to the advertised base salary. As a Senior Quarantine Inspector (Dog Handler), you will screen air and freight pathways, including passengers, luggage, and mail arriving from interstate and ensure it complies with state biosecurity legislation. You will be part of the Checkpoints and Surveillance team who ensure frontline operations of the Detector Dog Unit are undertaken to the highest standards. You will deploy Detector Dogs in the above search environments to maximise their operational capabilities and manage their health, welfare and safety. Travel within the Perth Metropolitan area and occasional travel to regional offices may be required. About you We are seeking candidates who have a: demonstrated knowledge and experience interpreting and applying acts, regulations, policies, procedures and guidelines; demonstrated experience and/or knowledge in animal handling, training, and/or associated management and welfare of working dogs; demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of people using excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
