About This Role Our client, a Tier 1 global mining organisation at the forefront of energy transition and sustainable resource development, is seeking a highly experienced Principal Health & Safety professional to play a critical leadership role on a flagship project in Western Australia. This FIFO role will be offered on a 2:1 roster, with potential flexibility toward a 4:3 roster, supporting both project delivery and operational readiness phases. As the Lead Health & Safety Advisor, you will be responsible for establishing and governing robust safety systems across complex, high-hazard environments. Partnering closely with engineering, commissioning, operations, and major contractors, you will ensure the project meets regulatory requirements, corporate safety standards, and critical control frameworks. This role requires a strong blend of strategic leadership, technical process safety expertise, and operational engagement, with significant visibility and influence across senior leadership and project stakeholders. Key Responsibilities Lead and implement the Health & Safety strategy aligned with corporate standards and material risk frameworksProvide expert guidance to senior leadership on H&S risks, controls, performance, and resourcingLead process safety initiatives including Bowtie analysis, HAZOP, HAZID, and LOPA assessmentsEstablish and govern critical control standards for catastrophic risks including hydrogen, process safety, HV systems, and mobile equipmentDevelop and oversee risk registers, safety case documentation, and major hazard management processesEmbed H&S requirements into engineering design, procurement, and contractor management processesSupport commissioning readiness, operational transition, and pre-start-up safety reviewsLead critical control verification programs and assurance activitiesReview incident investigations using ICAM or equivalent methodologiesEnsure contractor safety systems, permits, and risk assessments meet project standardsMaintain strong field presence across construction, commissioning, and early operationsDrive continuous improvement in serious injury and fatality prevention and process safety performanceSupport regulatory compliance, audits, and external assurance readiness Requirements Experience in Health & Safety within mining, energy, chemicals, or heavy industrial environmentsDemonstrated experience supporting major construction, commissioning, or operational readiness phasesStrong expertise in critical risk management, process safety, and catastrophic hazard controlsExperience leading risk assessments including HAZOP, HAZID, Bowties, and incident investigationsExperience working in complex contractor environments and large-scale projectsExperience with hydrogen systems, explosive atmospheres, or dangerous goods environmentsOperational experience in processing plants, metallurgical facilities, or energy projectsExperience establishing safety systems for new or emerging technologiesTertiary qualification in Workplace Health & Safety, Engineering, or Process SafetyICAM Lead Investigator certification or equivalentInternal Auditor qualification (WHS Management Systems) highly desirableStrong understanding of Western Australian WHS and Mining legislationStrong leadership presence with the ability to influence senior stakeholdersHighly developed communication and engagement skillsPractical, solutions-focused approach to risk managementStrong organisational and prioritisation skillsCommitment to building and sustaining a positive safety culture Benefits Work for a Tier one mining businessFIFO on 2:1 rosterWork on a high profile project within the businessSalary sacrificingEmployee Assistance Program (EAP)Corporate discounts About Brunel: Brunel is a recruitment and flexible workforce solution provider which connects talented people with opportunities throughout Australasia and around the world.
