About the role The Koorie Liaison Officer plays a crucial role in developing and fostering key relationships within the local Koorie community to collaborate on local, place-based approaches to improving educational outcomes for Koorie learners. You will be responsible for establishing partnerships and engagement with major Aboriginal organisations including Aboriginal Corporations, Traditional Owner (TO) Groups, Registered Aboriginal Parties (RAPs), Aboriginal Land Councils and Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs). The Koorie Liaison Officer collaborates with Koorie Student Support Officers to enhance the cultural inclusivity of TAFE Gippsland, ensures Aboriginal and cultural perspectives are integrated into the course curriculum, and contributes to the organisation’s broader cultural priorities and developments. This is an Indigenous identified position and only available to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This position represents a special measure in accordance with s8(1) of the Racial Discrimination Act 1975 (Cth) and s12 of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010 (Vic). A six-month probationary period applies to the role. About you TAFE Gippsland is seeking a highly motivated individual with strong connections to the Koorie Community and a broad knowledge of working with Indigenous groups across Gippsland. With demonstrated high level communication skills, you can easily develop and foster relationships to promote pathways into education and employment for Koorie learners. You enjoy working collaboratively in a multi-skilled team, with proven organisational skills and the ability to multitask, prioritise and meet critical deadlines. Qualifications and experience Experience working with the Koorie Community with proven links within the Gippsland area Significant recent experience, understanding, and involvement in Koorie and/or mainstream education A Post-Secondary Qualification (e.g. Koorie Studies, Education, Community Services) Ability to lead Koorie related activities and projects Familiarity with using the Internet.
