We are seeking an experienced Operations Manager with a flair for the SME environment who lives for the thrill of turning ‘dream’ projects into reality. Someone who can instinctively see what needs doing, rolls up their sleeves and just gets it done. Your commercial business mind naturally takes control and ‘mediocre’ isn’t part of your vocabulary. Whilst there will always be a lot to do, you’re an efficient worker and proudly power through your day. Based in the southern suburbs of Sydney, you’ll be at the helm of a new and thriving business within the fast paced construction industry. They require all back office systems, processes and procedures to be set up correctly to allow the team to continue to grow (which they are doing rapidly). This is the perfect mix of business operations, finance accounts, payroll, back end system & IT management, and HR. You’ll love wearing many hats and thrive on a vast array of tasks – with lots of ‘bits and pieces’ throw in! This role will be worked in 3 phases… Set up…which involves all of the grunt work to ensure the foundations of the business are rock solid. This will include: Drafting all company policies, relating to WHS, operating practices, staffing and finance processes. Setting up operating systems for how they run jobs, projects and how data is saved so all staff can access it (SharePoint). Renewals of all insurances (Business, PI, PL, cyber, WorkCover etc) Creating a base for HR – reviewing contracts, ensuring all compliance is met and creating onboarding/training documentation. Setting up templates for every component of their work and flows – using Canva for accurate branding and ensuring polished document creation. Setting up Xero for invoicing, P&L’s for each job, payroll (currently 5 staff) and financial reporting. From there you’ll move to Phase 2, whereby you’ll settle all of the systems into place and make tweaks along the way… You’ll work alongside consultants, provide 5 star client service, pay bills, assist with cash flow management and iron out any inefficacies to ensure all deadlines are met. Then lastly your ‘Growth Mindset’ will kick in and you’ll pivot towards business growth strategies including basic marketing, financial management and process improvement (AI, new software and technology). As more staff are employed, you’ll also undertake training and continue to drive the positive culture they currently have. You’ll be the glue that holds the entire business together. Think of yourself as the conductor of an orchestra – bringing different sections together to create one cohesive performance. The ideal person for the role? A tech savvy, highly motivated, ultra positive operations leader who simply LOVES to take control. The Director is a respected leader in the industry, with endless contacts and big plans for growth – however, the back office needs to have a solid foundation before they can truly push ahead. Prior experience within construction, engineering or building consulting (or even a trade, electrical, plumbing or painting) will be necessary to hit the ground running – coupled with small to medium sized business experience. Xero, Advanced Word, intermediate excel, Sharepoint and packages like Canva for design work will ensure you’re powering through the workload effortlessly. This is a fantastic greenfield site with plenty of opportunity. They’re a lovely modern team, all very down to earth but still keen to raise the bar for their business and industry overall.
