We are now seeking an experienced and committed Nurse Unit Manager to provide clinical, operational and people leadership across our nursing teams providing care to our patients seen across Surgery, Ophthalmology, Neurology, Anaesthesia, Sports Medicine, Imaging, Dentistry and Exotics. The Role As Nurse Unit Manager, you will be accountable for the safe, efficient and high‑quality delivery of nursing care across these services, balancing patient care excellence with workforce sustainability and business outcomes. Working in close partnership with Heads of Department, Hospital Operations and peer Nurse Unit Managers, you will translate strategy into action, support Team Leaders to succeed, and drive continuous improvement in nursing practice, systems and workflow. You will be supported by experienced Team Leaders and work closely with the Theatre Coordinator, allowing you the space to focus on leadership, people development and forward planning, while remaining clinically involved when required. Key responsibilities include: Providing visible, values‑led leadership and setting clear expectations for standards, behaviour and performance Leading and developing Team Leaders through coaching, feedback and capability building Owning the performance, engagement and development of nursing staff, including recruitment, onboarding and performance management in partnership with People & Culture Ensuring safe and effective daily operations through workforce planning, rostering and flexible allocation of nursing resources Defining, implementing and continually refining nursing operating models to meet clinical demand Acting as a senior clinical resource and stepping into clinical duties when required Leading quality improvement initiatives, incident review and resolution Partnering with Hospital Operations and Finance to manage workforce costs, efficiency and productivity Supporting a positive, collaborative culture aligned with SASH values About You You are an experienced veterinary nurse leader who thrives in a fast‑paced, high‑acuity environment and enjoys building engaged, high‑performing teams. You are confident balancing clinical excellence with operational and people leadership, and you bring a proactive, structured and solution‑focused approach to your work.
