We are seeking passionate and motivated Plant Ecologists/Botanists, ranging from early‑career to senior practitioners, to join our growing Ecology team in Perth. This role is ideal for someone with a strong foundation in plant ecology and vegetation science, and with demonstrable experience in plant physiology, ecohydrology or plant functional biology. SLR provides strong technical guidance and mentoring from highly experienced Technical Directors who are recognised specialists in plant ecohydrology and ecosystem function, ensuring your continued professional development and growth. As a Plant Ecologist/Botanist, you will contribute to a wide range of ecological assessments, monitoring programs, and research-driven studies across diverse landscapes, predominantly in Western Australia. With active projects across Australia, travel to field locations will form a valued component of the role. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver high‑quality technical outputs, support project approvals, and develop innovative approaches to understanding plant health, adaptation, and ecosystem functioning, in particular Groundwater Dependent Ecosystems (GDEs) and Inland Waters. Depending on your level of experience, you will take on responsibilities spanning field surveys, data analysis, client engagement, project delivery, and team leadership. Job tasks and responsibilities Dependant on your level of experience: Plan, design and deliver flora and vegetation surveys and ecological monitoring programs, including quadrats, transects, targeted searches, habitat assessments and vegetation condition assessments. Contribute to and, where appropriate, lead plant physiology and functional ecology investigations (e.g. leaf water potential, stable isotopes, plant stress indicators, chlorophyll fluorescence) Analyse and interpret ecological, physiological and spatial data to produce high-quality technical reports that provide clear, evidence-based assessments of plant health, ecosystem condition, and responses to disturbance, climate and hydrological change. Support and progressively lead project delivery, including research design, literature review, proposal and scope development, client communication, and technical review. Collaborate within multidisciplinary teams while contributing to knowledge sharing, mentoring and quality assurance processes that strengthen team capability and technical excellence. Skills and experience Essential Degree in Botany, Plant Ecology, Environmental Science, or related discipline. Experience in plant physiology techniques (e.g., water relations, stress physiology, plant functional traits). Understanding of Australian flora, vegetation communities, and ecological survey methods. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Willingness to undertake fieldwork in remote or regional locations. Desirable Experience working in consulting, mining, resources, government or research environments. Knowledge of state and federal environmental legislation and survey guidelines. Skills in statistical analysis (R, Python), data interpretation, or remote sensing. Demonstrated capability in project coordination or technical leadership (for senior roles).
