Role Purpose The Carpenter is responsible for carrying out structural and finishing carpentry works across construction projects to ensure works are completed safely, accurately and in accordance with approved plans and specifications. The role contributes directly to the successful delivery of building projects by maintaining workmanship standards and supporting efficient site operations. Working collaboratively with supervisors, site managers and other trades, the Carpenter ensures construction activities meet quality, safety and compliance requirements while adhering to project timelines and budgets. Key Responsibilities Interpret and work from construction drawings, specifications and instructions to carry out carpentry tasks accurately. Measure, cut, shape and assemble timber and other building materials to construct frameworks, formwork, structures and fittings. Install flooring systems, wall partitions, roofing components, doors, windows and associated fixtures. Construct and dismantle formwork for concrete structures in accordance with engineering specifications. Ensure all works comply with the National Construction Code, relevant Australian Standards and site safety requirements. Operate hand and power tools safely and maintain equipment in good working condition. Conduct on-site measurements and calculations to ensure precise alignment and structural integrity. Coordinate with other trades to ensure seamless integration of carpentry works within the overall construction program. Identify and report defects, variations or discrepancies in plans to the site supervisor. Monitor material usage and minimise waste to support cost control objectives. Maintain a clean and safe work environment in compliance with workplace health and safety (WHS) regulations. Assist in mentoring apprentices or junior team members where required. Complete required documentation, including site reports and safety records, accurately and on time. Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing efficiency and workmanship standards. What We Are Looking For (Requirements) Minimum one (1) year of relevant work experience as a Carpenter in residential, commercial or civil construction projects. Certificate III in Carpentry or equivalent trade qualification. Demonstrated ability to read and interpret construction drawings and technical documentation. Sound understanding of Australian building regulations, WHS requirements and safe work practices. Strong practical skills with attention to detail and commitment to high-quality workmanship. White Card (Construction Induction Card) and ability to work on construction sites within Victoria. Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
