The Role Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Legislation Lawyer for an initial secondment to 30 June 2026 to support the Legal Division within a high profile Commonwealth Department. This position is for a candidate with significant experience in legislation reform and development. The Responsibilities The position requires the successful candidate work closely with the legal team to: prepare drafting instructions; draft Explanatory Memorandum; assist in the development of primary and subordinate legislation; have extensive familiarity with parliamentary processes; and respond to parliamentary committee scrutiny. The Requirements Extensive experience developing primary and subordinate Commonwealth legislation and legislative development projects and knowledge of obligations under the Legal Services Directions 2017 would be highly regarded. Legal qualifications, a current practicing certificate (or ability to obtain one) and a Baseline Security Clearance are required.
