Job Description Position Title: APS5 - EL1 Payroll Audit Officer Employment Type: Labour hire (approx 3-Month Contract with potential extension) Location: Canberra Hourly Pay Rate: APS5: $53.99 – $58.85 per hour plus 12% super APS6: $60.62 – $67.89 per hour plus 12% super EL1: $74.00 – $80.66 per hour plus 12% super Security Clearance/Requirements: Ability to obtain and maintain a Police Check ABOUT THE ROLE A Federal Government organisation is seeking experienced Payroll Audit Officers (APS5 to EL1 equivalent, depending on skills and experience) to undertake a comprehensive audit of employee leave balances following a recent HRMIS payroll system transition. Following the migration from a legacy system in August 2025, discrepancies were identified in annual and personal leave balances, potentially impacting up to 530 employees. This role will focus on conducting a detailed manual audit to validate leave balances, identify discrepancies and support the rectification process. This is an excellent opportunity for experienced payroll or finance professionals who thrive in detailed, data-driven environments and can deliver accurate, high-quality reporting under tight timeframes. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Conduct a detailed audit of annual, personal, long service, and prior service leave balances for up to 530 employees Review and reconcile leave data between the legacy system and the new HRMIS payroll system Identify discrepancies and clearly document findings Manually analyse and validate payroll data using spreadsheets Prepare structured, accurate, and easy-to-understand reports outlining discrepancies and recommended corrections Support documentation and filing requirements for rectification activities SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE Demonstrated experience auditing employee leave balances Background in payroll, finance, or a related discipline Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including strong data analysis capability High attention to detail and strong analytical skills Ability to interpret complex payroll data and identify inconsistencies Strong written communication skills for clear reporting Ability to commence immediately ELIGIBILITY Must be able to obtain and maintain a Police Check Must be an Australian citizen at time of application Apply now or contact Angel Malkovich on 6260 8888 at SOS Recruitment for a confidential discussion.
