Job Description Position Title: APS4 Audit and Compliance Support Officer Employment Type: Non-ongoing – Approx. 4 months (with potential extension) Location: Canberra Salary: $75,022 - $81,775 per annum plus 15.4% super Security Clearance/Requirements: Ability to obtain and maintain a Police Check ABOUT THE ROLE A Federal Government organisation is seeking an APS4 Audit and Compliance Support Officer to assist with a targeted payroll audit following a recent HRMIS system transition. Following the migration from a legacy payroll system in August 2025, discrepancies were identified in employee leave balances, potentially impacting up to 530 employees. This role will provide essential administrative and operational support to ensure accurate reconciliation of payroll data and assist with compliance activities related to leave balances. This is a great opportunity for an HR professional with payroll or compliance experience who is detail-oriented, proactive and confident communicating with staff in a clear and respectful manner. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Provide administrative and operational support to audit and compliance activities within HR and payroll functions Assist in reviewing payroll and employee records to identify discrepancies, anomalies or non-compliance issues Support reconciliation of payroll data and maintain accurate audit documentation and records Respond to routine payroll and compliance queries in a professional and culturally appropriate manner Explain payroll processes, entitlements and compliance requirements clearly in plain language Prepare draft correspondence, briefing notes and summary reports outlining findings or responses to queries Maintain accurate records and contribute to quality assurance processes Assist with small projects, helpdesk coverage and other HR-related tasks as required SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE Essential: Minimum 6 months’ experience in Human Resources, with exposure to payroll or compliance functions Strong attention to detail and ability to manage routine audit-related tasks Ability to communicate payroll and compliance matters clearly and respectfully Proactive approach to managing queries and workload Desirable: Experience working in an APS or similar public sector environment Confidence engaging with staff and stakeholders in a respectful and culturally appropriate way Flexibility to respond to changing priorities Ability to draft clear, accurate correspondence and reports ELIGIBILITY Must be able to obtain and maintain a Police Check Must be an Australian citizen at time of application Apply now or contact Angel Malkovich on 6260 8888 at SOS Recruitment for a confidential discussion.
