An established Australian apparel business is seeking an experienced CAD Manager to lead its in-house CAD and technical development function in Perth, Western Australia. This is a hands-on leadership role. You will take ownership of garment specifications, pattern integrity, pricing accuracy, and system discipline, ensuring that product moves smoothly from concept to production. The role reports to the Production Manager and oversees a team of five across CAD, pattern development, and technical support. Core Responsibilities Operational & Technical Oversight Review and approve styles prior to quotation Negotiate and confirm pricing with suppliers Oversee grading, specifications, and garment construction standards Lead fit trials, base style development, and specification updates Manage supplier pricing and fabric changes across multiple SKUs Ensure systems reflect current commercial and technical realities Team Leadership Lead, mentor, and develop a team of five CAD/technical staff Plan workloads and manage capacity Support resolution of complex technical or production challenges Production & Commercial Alignment Prepare and present weekly CAD and production reports Act as primary contact for CAD-related internal and supplier queries Work closely with Production, Sales, Purchasing, Warehouse and Marketing teams Continuous Improvement Refine garment specification templates Improve departmental systems and workflows Drive efficiency across costing, technical packs, and supplier communication Critical Requirements Technical Capability Advanced proficiency in garment CAD systems and specification management Strong background in pattern making, grading, and garment construction Clear understanding of cost drivers in apparel manufacturing Experience working with offshore manufacturers Ability to interpret and manage fabric and trim changes across ranges Leadership Experience Proven experience managing a CAD, design, or technical development team Commercial & Communication Skills Comfortable negotiating pricing with suppliers Professional and confident in cross-functional environments Solutions-focused with sound analytical judgement Qualifications Certificate, Diploma, or Degree in Fashion Design, Garment Technology, or a related discipline Full working rights for Australia Why This Role Matters The CAD Manager sits at the technical backbone of the business.
