The key duties of the position include We are seeking Law Interpretation Officers to join our Law Design and Practice (LDP), Compliance and Engagement Group (CEG), and Frontline Operations Groups. LDP includes several specialist areas, such as Objections and Review (OAR), the Office of the Chief Tax Counsel (OCTC), and Policy, Analysis and Legislation (PAL). This recruitment process will support opportunities across LDP, CEG and Frontline Operations, with positions available in a range of law interpretation and dispute resolution work areas. Roles may be available across any of our LDP areas, including OAR, OCTC and PAL, as well as across CEG's technical advice and leadership functions and relevant areas within Frontline Operations. As a Law Interpretation Officer, you will use your relevant law and policy expertise and exercise judgement to solve complex, technical and sensitive taxation matters by undertaking complex legal and policy research, analysis and interpretation to inform advice, recommendations and decision making. You'll interpret and analyse facts, evidence and information. You will apply and interpret law and policies to resolve disputes and contribute to policy and law design changes that supports effective tax and superannuation administration. You'll identify opportunities for policy and law design improvements. The role may involve matters affecting individuals (including high wealth individuals), small businesses, public groups, multinational enterprises, private groups and high-risk taxpayers. You will work collaboratively with your team and a wide range of Commonwealth, tax, legal and community stakeholders. This may involve resolving and preventing disputes, supporting the development of government policy and legislation through close engagement with Treasury and other government agencies, and contributing to complex enquiries and whole-of-government processes. You will apply a holistic approach to law interpretation and decision making to maintain the integrity of the tax system, prioritising the overall client experience. You'll use your expertise to mentor and develop junior staff and share your knowledge with others.
