We are seeking a Cloud -based Engineer for the Collision Avoidance System (CAS) designs to deliver and operate the cloud and edge-to-cloud capabilities that enable safe, reliable, and observable operations of CAS across heavy mobile equipment. Partnering with embedded, systems, and product teams, this role owns cloud data ingestion, messaging, device management, telemetry pipelines, observability, and dashboards aligned to the CAS high-level architecture. You will modernize and harden the Road-Side equipment-to-cloud path (LTE/4G over MQTT), build scalable APIs and data stores, and ensure seamless interoperability with the on-vehicle and road-side components as the hardware transitions to an industrial SBC while preserving external behaviours. Location – Perth City Contract – 8 months Start & End date - 30/03/2026 to 30/11/2026 Pay rate - $80 to $110 depending on experience Responsibilities Design and implement cloud-native services for CAS telemetry ingestion, device messaging, and command pathways using MQTT and REST/gRPC where appropriate. Engineer data pipelines (streaming and batch) for field logs, metrics, and events to support diagnostics, fleet analytics, and product insights. Work with Senior engineers, Principal architects to obtain the relevant data, analyse and display data for feature development. Define and maintain message schemas and contracts across onboard, road-side and cloud boundaries; ensure backward compatibility during the onboard component upgrades. Build and operate scalable storage layers (time-series, object, relational) with partitioning, indexing, and lifecycle policies for cost-efficient retention. Establish observability standards: centralized logging, distributed tracing, SLOs/SLIs, latency/error budgets, and on-call readiness for cloud services. Implement secure device onboarding, certificates/keys rotation, policy enforcement, and role-based access control for internal services and dashboards. Collaborate with embedded and systems engineers to translate safety requirements into cloud-side validations, watchdogs, and fail-safe behaviours (e.g., command rate limits, schema validation, replay protection). Create and maintain technical documentation: interface specifications, sequence diagrams, deployment runbooks, data dictionaries, and operational playbooks for field support teams. Improve CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, and automated tests (contract, integration, performance, and chaos) to assure reliability and rapid, safe releases. Required Experience Experience (3 years) in engineering cloud platforms for IoT/edge or safety-related systems with strong ownership of reliability and operations. Expertise in MQTT (topic design, QoS, retained messages, session state), device identity, and secure connectivity over cellular networks (LTE/4G). Strong backend engineering in one or more languages (e.g., C#, Go, Python, Java) with REST/gRPC APIs, message brokers, and event streaming platforms. Cloud infrastructure mastery (e.g., AWS/Azure/GCP) including networking, IAM, containers/orchestration (Docker/Kubernetes), and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform/CDK). Observability: Prometheus/OpenTelemetry, log pipelines, actionable dashboards, and alerting tuned to SLOs for latency, availability, and data completeness. Data engineering: schema design, serialisation formats (JSON/Avro/Protobuf/DDS), time-series storage, data lakes, and governance (catalogues, lineage, retention). Security-by-design: PKI, cert rotation, secrets management, least-privilege IAM, audit logging, and threat modelling for device-cloud interactions. Desirable V2X/DSRC telemetry characteristics and implications for cloud-side aggregation and analytics. Familiarity with RS‑232 integrated systems, GNSS data handling, and control system observability (e.g., brake status, LED signaling flows). Experience in developing scalable, secure cloud-based solutions for various customers. Front end UI/UX development in ReactJS, TypeScript, CSS and Figma is highly advantageous. Digital twins and replay frameworks for scenario-based validation and performance regression testing. Rules engines or stream processing for real-time alerts and policy enforcement on telemetry. Visualization of spatiotemporal data (GNSS traces, V2X/DSRC events) for operator and engineering dashboards.
