Description Join our Downer Professional Services team and play a key role in delivering complex defence and national security projects that safeguard Australia ’ s future. Downer Professional Services is comprised of two business units, our Technical, Advisory, and Capability consulting practice and Team Downer, a major service partner to Defence. Together, we are a multi-disciplinary advisory and delivery partner of choice for our clients in Defence and National Security. We currently have an opportunity for a Systems Engineer in Canberra to work on Joint projects . What You’ll Do This role offers a broad scope, with key role responsibilities including: Engineering Management Planning : Contribute to the development and maintenance of bespoke Engineering Management Plans (EMP) and related artefacts in alignment with ASDEFCON (Support) standards. Schedule-Driven Execution & Assurance : Execute engineering plans in accordance with Product Schedules, Work Take On agreements, and contractual obligations, ensuring timely and compliant delivery. System Safety & Configuration Integrity : Define and maintain a System Safety Management System and ensure product baselines, including ILS and logistics data, are technically sound and delivered as scheduled. Stakeholder Engagement & Governance : Engage with stakeholder boards (e.g., DDG for ICT releases) to ensure conformance without compromising project timelines or budgets. Workforce & Capability Planning : Incorporate workforce attributes, technical authority requirements, and logistics factors such as Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, and Supportability into engineering planning. What You’ll Bring Strong CASG engineering management background , including in ‑ service sustainment and product engineering responsibilities. Ownership of engineering governance and technical authority , ensuring configuration control, baseline assurance, and disciplined systems engineering practices. Deep experience with configuration ‑ centric sustainment , including system safety, obsolescence, ILS assurance, and change control across multiple in ‑ service ICT products. Proven ability to operate within ASDEFCON (Support) and CASG E&IG frameworks , ensuring compliance, traceability, and alignment with Defence engineering standards. Highly desirable exposure to system safety governance , obsolescence and growth management, and multi ‑ stakeholder ICT release environments, strengthening overall sustainment assurance. Due to the nature of the work, you are required to currently hold and maintain a minimum Negative Vetting 1 or higher Security clearance as required by the Commonwealth. In some instances, compliance with International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) requirements may also be an inherent requirement.
