MOVE FORWARD WITH US What you will be doing: This role falls under the Pioneer Pump segment of the business which is a Brand within Franklin Electric. It specialises in the design, assembly, and supply of high-quality heavy duty pump packages, skids, and trailer-mounted solutions tailored to Australian conditions and customer requirements. The design engineer supports the design, engineering, and manufacture of pump packages, skids, and trailer-mounted systems assembled at the Melbourne facility. This role provides hands-on exposure to engineered products, working closely with the lead engineer, project manager, workshop personnel, suppliers, and customers. The position focuses on producing accurate engineering calculations, drawings, and documentation, assisting with pump and equipment selection, and supporting manufacturing, testing, and continuous improvement activities. It is an ideal role for a graduate or early-career engineer seeking practical, workshop-connected engineering experience within a global organization. Engineering & Design Engineering calculation and design for all pump packages, skids and trailers Produce general arrangement drawings, detailed fabrication drawings, and 3D models. Prepare and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) and design documentation. Update and revise drawings in accordance with engineering standards and change control processes. Ensure compliance with company standards and relevant Australian Standards. Support testing, commissioning, and validation of equipment. Technical Support Assist with pump and equipment selection to ensure products meet duty and performance requirements. Apply hydraulic and pump engineering principles including affinity laws, pipe friction, system curves, and NPSH. Liaise with suppliers regarding engines, motors, control panels, and ancillary equipment. Work with internal and global engineering teams to develop engineered solutions. Maintain knowledge of current engineering software and tools. Manufacturing & Workshop Engagement Provide technical guidance and direction to workshop personnel during fabrication and assembly. Ensure designs are practical, safe, cost‑effective, and manufacturable. Support material selection, fabrication methods, and supplier engagement. Provide hands-on assistance during prototype builds, production, inspections, and testing. Documentation & Change Management Maintain accurate drawing registers and document control systems. Manage engineering changes and update design records accordingly. Assist with development and maintenance of specifications, standards, and technical documentation. Administration & Reporting Provide progress updates to projects and sales teams to support project scheduling and delivery. Accurately enter and maintain engineering data in company systems. Maintain organised project files for efficient retrieval. Customer & Stakeholder Engagement Support customers with technical information and engineering queries when required. Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders, suppliers, and contractors. Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and adoption of new technologies. Quality assurance & compliance Support the development, implementation, and maintenance of engineering QA procedures, checks, and design review processes. Participate in root-cause analysis, corrective and preventive actions (CAPA), and continuous improvement initiatives related to quality or field issues. Ensure engineering documentation, specifications, and revisions are accurate and controlled. Conduct product QA as and when required. Regular standing, walking, and interaction with equipment and personnel. Occasional lifting of items up to 5 kg. Exposure to workshop environments, noise, mechanical equipment, and occasional outdoor conditions.
