HR Business Partner Permanent & 12-Month Fixed-Term (Parental Leave Cover) | Sydney | Full-Time | Hybrid Who We Are At Torrens University Australia, making a difference is in our DNA. As a Certified B Corporation, we belong to a global community of future-focused organisations using business as a force for good. We believe in the transformative power of education to change lives, families, communities – and the world. We are bold, modern and agile — Australia’s fastest-growing university — and as we continue to scale, we are evolving our People & Talent function to better enable strategic growth, organisational effectiveness and a high-performing culture. What’s the Job? We’re entering an exciting new phase in our HR Business Partnering model — shifting from a predominantly operational focus to a model that delivers meaningful, strategic impact across the organisation. This role will play a pivotal part in that evolution, partnering with leaders to shape workforce strategy, drive performance, and enable sustainable business outcomes. As a HR Business Partner, you will proactively influence leadership capability, workforce planning, organisational development and culture. You will partner with senior leaders to anticipate risks, interpret workforce data, and shape forward-looking people strategies — not just simply respond to operational queries. Operating within a shared services model, you will balance essential operational governance while elevating strategic contribution across your client group. There are two great opportunities available; One is for a Permanent Full time HRBP & the other is a Full time, 12-Month Fixed-Term parental leave cover. Both roles are created for a successful candidate located in Sydney. This role provides exceptional hybrid opportunities, with 2 days a week based at our Surry Hills Campus in Sydney and the rest working from home. Key Points About This Role Strategic Business Partnering Drive long-term workforce strategy, proactively identifying organisational risks, capability gaps and culture opportunities. Leadership & Capability Uplift Coach leaders to build high-performing teams, strengthen people management capability and embed accountability. Organisational & Workforce Planning Lead workforce planning, role redesign and structural initiatives aligned to future growth and transformation. ER Risk Mitigation & Governance Provide expert guidance on ER matters, legislation and policy to protect institutional integrity and reduce risk. Data-Driven Insight & Impact Translate workforce metrics into meaningful insights, using analytics to influence evidence-based decisions. While we are evolving towards a more strategic partnering model, this role will initially retain a strong operational, hands-on component. As we continue this transformation, the operational focus will progressively reduce, creating greater scope for strategic impact and value-add partnering. Who You Are Strategic Mindset You think long-term, anticipate workforce trends and shape proactive people strategies aligned to business goals. Data & Insight Oriented You confidently interpret HR metrics (turnover, engagement, diversity, workforce trends) and convert data into action. Commercial & Influential You build trusted partnerships with senior leaders, confidently influencing and challenging constructively. Workplace Relations Expertise Strong knowledge of Fair Work legislation, industrial relations and ER frameworks within complex environments. Qualified & Experienced Relevant tertiary qualification (HR or related discipline) or equivalent experience, with proven HRBP experience in a complex, high-performing organisation. Why Join Us?
