We protect Australia's plant health to support trade, the economy, and the environment. Our division provides scientific advice, diagnostics, biosecurity training, and risk assessments. We enable safe plant imports, strengthen systems, and engage stakeholders. Surveillance and response are conducted at national entry points and approved sites, including northern Australia. We work closely with communities and Indigenous rangers to manage biosecurity risks, including in the Torres Strait. The Post-Entry Quarantine Group (PEQ) manages the quarantine of high-risk plants and animals at the Mickleham Facility near Melbourne. Purpose-built for species like horses, cats, dogs, birds, and bees, the facility ensures compliance with import regulations. In collaboration with scientists and veterinarians, PEQ safeguards the health and welfare of all arrivals throughout their quarantine period. The role of the response and operational safety Manager, located at the Post Entry Quarantine Facility at Mickleham, is to lead and manage response and safety activities across high-risk biosecurity operations. These activities include, risk assessments, hazard and incident management, business continuity response including coordination of corrective actions. The successful applicant will be driven, capable, resilient, and adaptable with flexible approaches to problem solving and demonstrate innovative leadership managing staff in a regulatory environment to achieve departmental service delivery goals. Key duties of Manager - response and operational safety , include, but are not limited to: lead and manage a programme of work relating to safety and response activities to enable the effective delivery of biosecurity services related to animal and plant imports at the PEQ lead risk assessment activities, working with colleagues to ensure actions are completed.
