Why YOU are important to us and what impact will you have on the Biosecurity Plant and Science Services Division and the departments' goal . We protect Australia's plant health to support trade, the economy and the environment. Our division provides scientific advice, diagnostics, biosecurity training and risk assessments. We enable safe plant imports, strengthen systems and engage stakeholders. Surveillance and response are conducted at national entry points and approved sites, including northern Australia. We work closely with communities and Indigenous rangers to manage biosecurity risks, including in the Torres Strait. The Post-Entry Quarantine Group (PEQ) manages the quarantine of high-risk plants and animals at the Mickleham Facility near Melbourne. Purpose-built for species like horses, cats, dogs, birds and bees, the facility ensures compliance with import regulations. In collaboration with scientists and veterinarians, PEQ safeguards the health and welfare of all arrivals throughout their quarantine period. As an Assistant Director at the Post Entry Quarantine Facility you will lead teams delivering regulatory services, collaborate with stakeholders, interpret complex legislation and manage strategic planning and competing priorities. You will prepare high-level reports and briefs, analyse performance metrics and oversee risk, WHS and emergency management compliance. You will also contribute to policy improvements, drive operational and biocontainment initiatives and identify property upgrade opportunities in partnership with key stakeholders. As the Assistant Director - High Containment, your duties will include, but are not limited to: • leading teams in delivering regulatory services and building organisational capability and responsiveness • effectively collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to enhance regulatory service delivery and achieve outcomes • researching, interpreting and applying complex legislation • undertaking strategic planning and managing competing priorities to deliver complex project outcomes aligned with business objectives • preparing reports, briefing papers, Ministerial correspondence and discussion papers • leading the analysis of performance metrics and benchmarks and reporting findings to the Director • managing risk assessments and compliance activities with a focus on WHS and emergency management • contributing to policy and process changes while also identifying and implementing innovative initiatives to enhance operational effectiveness and biosecurity management, including biocontainment • identifying opportunities for property upgrades, developing proposals to improve biosecurity and operational risk management and collaborating with stakeholders (including the Property Team) in planning and implementation.
