Job Description Key Responsibilities May Include: Manage automation systems and technical projects, ensuring that all installations meet production ramp schedules and budgeted performance objectives. Oversee the Commissioning, Qualification, and Verification (CQV) process for new equipment installations, ensuring a smooth transition from engineering commissioning to operational ownership. Develop and implement preventive and predictive maintenance strategies, including spare parts management and reliability-cantered maintenance, to support ongoing equipment performance (MTBF, MTTR). Ensure compliance with safety regulations, conducting risk assessments, machine guarding reviews, and ensuring all mechanical and electrical systems meet Zero Harm and regional safety standards. Provide technical leadership and support to plant operations teams, conducting training sessions for maintenance and production staff, and troubleshooting equipment issues as needed. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Process Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, and external contractors, to ensure the successful delivery of capital projects and automation improvements. Drive continuous improvement initiatives in equipment reliability, process efficiency, and safety by implementing Quality Operating Systems (QOS) and Daily Management Systems (DMS) to track and optimize performance. Support Factory and Site Acceptance Testing (FAT/SAT), ensuring all systems are properly tested and documented before going live. Ensure handoff includes complete documentation, including as-built drawings, maintenance manuals, and spare parts lists. This is a high‑impact role for an engineering leader who thrives at the intersection of automation, operations, and continuous improvement. The Opportunity You’ll lead the strategy and performance of Automation & Technical Systems across Australia — shaping maintenance standards, driving system reliability, and guiding site teams through major upgrades, start‑ups and technology transfers. You’ll influence national maintenance direction, partner with Process Engineering on automation roadmaps, and ensure our service centres achieve the highest standards in safety, compliance and equipment performance. What You’ll Do Leads and own the "technical systems strategy" Guide and support National Maintenance teams to deliver safe, reliable and standardised automation performance. Oversee project handover , commissioning and vertical start‑ups to ensure strong CQV outcomes. Lead technical investment planning and roadmaps to improve Safety, Quality and Productivity . Ensure all engineering, functional safety and legislative requirements are met across service centres. Drive capability uplift through training pathways and technical learning programs. Support CMMS optimisation, critical spares strategies and site audit outcomes. What You Bring Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics or similar). 5–10 years’ experience in automation, technical systems or maintenance engineering within manufacturing or processing. Demonstrated success implementing maintenance strategies and leading technical teams. Experience delivering automation/technical projects around ~$750k including commissioning and qualification. Strong knowledge of machinery safety, legislative requirements and best‑practice engineering standards. Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement and problem‑solving skills. Why Join CHEP?
