The key duties of the position include The Role As part of a team of Defence and Airservices Australia (AsA) specialists based at the Joint Software Support Facility (JSSF) at Tullamarine Airport Melbourne, the Air Traffic Management (ATM) Data System Defence Specialist will use a strong aviation background and recent relevant experience to perform aviation related work of a complex and/or critical type that requires considerable initiative, professional judgement and skill to support air traffic operations. This role requires employees to be effective at methodically analysing a wide array of aeronautical and technical information and applying relevant experience to make sound judgements. The successful candidate will require demonstrated skills in manipulating system adaptation files, a sound understanding of configuration change management processes and an ability to train other team members in the operation of the ATM adaptation system. Please note: The successful candidate will be required to complete Civil Military Air Traffic System adaptation data training (approximately 6 weeks Melbourne CBD location) and up to 4 weeks (flexible, not necessarily consecutive) Australian Defence Air Traffic System adaptation familiarisation at RAAF Base Williamtown NSW. This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Collective Agreement (DECA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability. About our Team Individually, and as part of a broader team of adaptation data and technical system specialists located in the JSSF at Melbourne Tullamarine Airport, the successful candidate will be responsible for managing the integrity and configuration of the Civil and Military Air Traffic System (CMATS) to optimise its performance and safety by applying advanced analytical techniques, development, configuration and adaptation. The successful candidate will work within a team of Defence and AsA personnel and will be one of the main points of contact for all Defence-specific work in addition to working on all National Airways System data. The management of the CMATS through manipulation of aeronautical and technical data supplements the system's software by providing the ability to revise the scope of the system's functionality to meet both military and civil operational objectives and technical requirements. This function plays a critical role in aviation by determining how the system behaves and has a direct effect on safety, operational efficiency, standardisation, risk management and financial performance of its stakeholders. Our Ideal Candidate Our ideal candidate will possess: Current or recent experience in supporting, maintaining or operating (tower and/or approach control) computer-based air traffic control systems such as Eurocat; Highly developed technical, analytical, and problem solving skills with demonstrated commitment to quality systems processes including configuration management, data management, attention to detail, and security; Extensive aviation experience and comprehensive technical knowledge of air traffic control data production and testing systems Ability to interpret and process highly complex geographical and non-geographical aeronautical data and documentation using relevant operational aviation experience; Comprehensive knowledge of air traffic management system data files, relational databases and experience manipulating them; Applies knowledge to build and sustain relationships and liaise with a range of internal and external stakeholders; Considers the ramifications of a wide range of issues, anticipates priorities and develops plans to achieve positive results; Provides subject matter expertise to the development and implementation of strategies and the evaluation of business outcomes to ensure continuous improvement in the delivery of database administration and configuration management; Ability to work both individually and as an effective member of a team; Excellent oral and written communication skills.
