The Sovereign Hill Museums Association is a not-for profit community-based organisation that includes: Sovereign Hill Outdoor Museum, Sovereign Hill Hotel, AURA and Narmbool, the Australian Centre for Rare Trades and Arts and the Australian Centre for Gold Rush Collections. It cares for a nationally and internationally significant collection of over 150,000 objects and protects the tangible and intangible cultural heritage of the Victorian gold rush. We are an Australian tourism icon that attracts some 500,000 visitors annually. The Outdoor Museum is internationally renowned as a living museum featuring rare trades, and programs and experiences that interpret a pivotal point in Australia's history. In all, some 350 staff work to bring our gold-rush story to life. They are supported by over 250 volunteers. About the Role The Gardens and Landscape Officer primary role is to support the design and development of new landscape and garden areas and for ensuring a high level of presentation is maintained for all garden & landscaped areas within the Sovereign Hill outdoor museum, the Centre for Rare Trades, Sovereign Hill Hotel, Narmbool and AURA areas. The role of the Gardens and Landscape Officer is very hands on and diverse. This is a 6 month fixed term maternity leave replacement role. Duties & Responsibilities Maintain high end, formal gardens to an exceptional standard including hedging Maintain productive gardens including fruit orchards, vegetable and herb gardens Maintain broader property including carpark areas, nature strips and back of house Preparation and repair of landscaped areas for regular largescale outdoor events Ensure safe operation and maintenance of all battery and petrol powered garden tools and plant including zero-turn mower, brushcutters, hedge-trimmers and chainsaws Installation and maintenance of irrigation and drainage systems across all sites Assist with nursery tasks such as plant propagation, transplanting seedlings Assist with tree management and fallen branches across all sites Assist with installation and maintenance of hard landscaping such as paths, retaining walls Assist with floral arrangements and cut flowers for use by other museum departments Assist with installation and operation of garden lights and fairy lights for Winter Wonderlights Support and maintain a safe weed control management plan to high standards across all sites Support the departments waste disposal to ensure it is environmentally friendly and sustainable Operate designated work vehicles safely across all sites, and between sites as required Desired Qualifications Certification in Landscaping, Horticulture, Arboriculture, Plant Operator, Conservation & Land Management, or related field is highly desired but not essential. Required Licenses/Certificates Chainsaw Operators Certificate – desired but not essential Farm Chemical Users Certificate or equivalent – desired but not essential Working at Heights Certificate would be highly desirable Medium rigid licence would be highly desirable Working with Children Check and Police Check Child Safety and Criminal History Checks – Sovereign Hill is committed to child safety.
