The opportunity This is our first engineering hire in Sydney - a pivotal role that will define how we build, ship, and scale in Australia. You'll be the technical anchor for our AU hub, working hand-in-hand with our world-class engineering team in Cape Town, South Africa, and playing a foundational role in establishing what will become a high-performing, high-impact local engineering presence. Being on the ground in Sydney, you'll have the rare opportunity to shape our technical direction, set engineering standards, and build the culture and team from day one. You'll be instrumental in proving out our distributed engineering model, accelerating product velocity across time zones, and laying the groundwork for everything we build in the region. The role You’ll build product features end to end, own critical components in our platform, and set engineering standards in Sydney. You will work closely with product and design, partner with our Cape Town engineers, and play a hands-on role in shaping our development practices, tooling, and culture as we scale. Tech stack and experience You should have deep expertise in Go, strong React/TypeScript skills, and experience with AWS/GCP and PostgreSQL. Our tech stack includes Go, React, Python, AWS, GCP, PostGIS, and a wide range of AI tools to get the job done. What you will do Design, build, and ship product features end to end to improve reliability, performance, and user experience Own services and components in a modern cloud environment, from API to data to front-end flows Collaborate with Cape Town engineering daily to plan, review, and deliver work across time zones Raise the bar on engineering quality through code reviews, testing, observability, and documentation Improve developer experience by refining CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, and internal tooling Partner with product and design to scope work, reduce complexity, and ship iteratively Help recruit, onboard, and mentor future Sydney engineers as the local team grows Requirements What you will bring Strong software engineering fundamentals and experience building production systems at scale Proficiency across back end and front end (polyglot welcome); comfortable working across the stack Experience with cloud-native development and modern DevOps practices (CI/CD, IaC, monitoring) Clear, pragmatic communication and an ability to collaborate across time zones and disciplines Bias to action, ownership mindset, and comfort operating in a fast-moving, ambiguous environment Bonus points for: Experience in B2B SaaS or data-heavy platforms Exposure to geospatial, imaging, or analytics workflows Benefits Why join us You'll be the founding engineer for Asseti's Sydney hub - a rare opportunity to shape our technical foundation, define engineering culture, and build a world-class team from the ground up.
