Horticulturist Department of Parliamentary Services Ongoing, full-time position PoV 3.1, $79,122 - $87,599 About the role Our Buildings & Grounds team are seeking a motivated and experienced Horticulturist to support the maintenance and presentation of the historic Parliament House grounds. Reporting to the Curator, Grounds and Gardens, this hands‑on role involves a broad range of horticultural maintenance activities, as well as preparing gardens and outdoor spaces to a high standard for Parliamentary sittings, events and functions. Key duties include: Carrying out a broad range of horticultural maintenance activities including pruning, fertilising, planting, propagation, irrigation management and weed control, ensuring gardens and landscaped areas are maintained to a high standard. Ensuring effective control of pests, weeds and diseases through the safe and appropriate application of chemical sprays where required. Operating horticultural equipment and machinery safely, ensuring all service and maintenance requirements are met. Assisting with garden maintenance and regular site preparation for Parliamentary and private functions. Maintaining maintenance records and contributing to efficient work practices, while understanding and complying with all work health, safety and risk management policies and procedures. About you You are a team‑focused horticulture professional with a strong work ethic and attention to detail. You take pride in your work and are committed to maintaining high standards in a heritage or high‑profile environment. Essential skills include: Proven experience in turf and horticultural maintenance, including irrigation and turf care Experience operating horticultural plant, equipment and machinery safely Experience in the safe application of chemicals for pest, weed and disease control Strong teamwork and communication skills with a sound understanding of work health and safety Hold a Cert IV in Horticulture with a current Victorian Agricultural Chemical User Permit Why join us?
