You can help improve lives and create a positive impact in your community It’s an opportunity to enhance your skills & knowledge & gain new experiences You’ll be helping Red Cross to support vulnerable people across Australia The program The Humanitarian Settlement Program (HSP) offers vital support to refugees and humanitarian entrants settling in Australia, including one-on-one casework, basic household goods, orientation and housing support. It also includes practical support like helping our clients link with Centrelink, Employment, Medicare, schools, and other local services. The opportunity Community Orientation volunteers will assist clients with practical settlement needs such as learning how to use public transport, attending health appointments, shopping together, and connecting the family with services in the community. In connection with the Humanitarian Settlement Program orientation outcomes, you will also help them build new skills and confidence in speaking English so that they will be able to participate in and enjoy Australian life. HSP volunteers are friendly, accepting, and flexible individuals, who are motivated to support the learning and positive settlement of newly arrived refugees. All the areas within the program are supported by the Red Cross caseworkers and Volunteer Engagement Officer. Training and ongoing development opportunities are offered as part of the program. The impact Red Cross volunteers are a vital connection between refugees and their new communities. As part of the Humanitarian Settlement Program, you will contribute to creating a friendly and inclusive environment that will help refugees feel welcome. Application requirements For this role you will be required to undertake a National Police Check, which will be organised through Red Cross. You will need to provide details for two professional references. The role will also require you to hold or apply for a Working With Children Check. Red Cross can assist you to apply for this check. You will need to hold a current AUS Drivers License to undertake this role (preferred).
