About the role As a Claims Specialist, Medical Indemnity, you will manage an end-to-end portfolio of complex and sensitive claims arising from healthcare services in public hospitals and health services. This role offers a high degree of autonomy within a collaborative and supportive team. You will manage your own portfolio while working on legally and medically complex matters that require sound judgement, resilience and confidence in decision-making. You will work closely with insured clients, panel firms and internal stakeholders, attending mediations, managing claims that are proceeding to trial and coronial inquests where required. Key responsibilities Manage an end-to-end portfolio of medical indemnity claims, applying an understanding of healthcare delivery and medical risk to complex and litigated matters. Assess liability, coverage, quantum and risk, exercising delegated authority to make defensible reserving and settlement decisions. Engage and instruct panel firms, experts and service providers to develop and execute effective claim strategies. Build trusted relationships with insured clients, including public hospitals, health services and medical practitioners, managing sensitive and complex interactions with professionalism and care. Prepare for and attend mediations, trials and coronial inquests (as appropriate), working closely with legal partners and internal stakeholders. Maintain high-quality claim documentation, reporting and file management in line with governance, audit and public sector requirements. What we are looking for Demonstrated experience managing end-to-end insurance claims, ideally within medical indemnity or complex personal injury environments. Ability to confidently manage a complex portfolio independently, while contributing positively to a collaborative and supportive team. Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with experience working directly with clients, legal representatives and service providers. Resilience and professionalism when dealing with sensitive, confronting or high-pressure matters. A willingness to learn, curiosity and openness to developing capability in medical, legal and public sector contexts. Strong capability in maintaining accurate, high-quality claim documentation, reporting and file management, with an understanding of governance, audit and public sector requirements. Backgrounds in medical indemnity, general insurance claims, personal injury insurance lines (such as TAC/CTP or WorkCover), legal practice or medical defence organisations will be well regarded.
