Why this role matters The Salvation Army (Salvos) is one of Australia’s largest providers of alcohol and other drug (AOD) programs including withdrawal management, residential and non-residential rehabilitation, and harm reduction programs. Salvos services go beyond addressing the core issues and challenges associated with problematic substance abuse and provide participants a place of hope, compassion, and dignity to recover safely. About the role The Salvation Army’s HeadFyrst program has partnered with six headspace sites across the South‑Western and Western Sydney LGAs, enabling collaboration between HeadFyrst clinicians and medical/allied health services to provide individualised treatment and care coordination for young people. Headfyrst is safe, inclusive, and youth‑friendly, operating from a harm‑minimisation and client‑centred approach. A HeadFyrst clinician provides effective evidence‑based psychological support, counselling, and intervention to HeadFyrst clients aged 12–25 years, including interventions for comorbid mental health and drug & alcohol use, along with screening and assessment duties, risk management, referral, education, and support responsibilities. This permanent part ‑time position , based in Liverpool NSW, operates three days per week from 9am to 5pm and reports directly to the Regional Manager. Remuneration is in line with the Health Professionals and Support Services Award. How you will make an impact Provide assessments to young people accessing the Headfyrst service, including semi‑structured psychosocial interviews and psychometric assessments. Provide case formulation and treatment planning tailored to the individual goals of the young person. Deliver evidence‑based interventions incorporating a range of modalities for AOD and mental health presentations. Maintain accurate and professional record‑keeping practices and documentation processes. Build rapport and engage effectively with individuals, families, and caregivers. Provide appropriate referral and support pathways for young people and their families. Work within a multidisciplinary environment and liaise with internal and external service providers. Develop, monitor, and review individual treatment plans and attend and participate in clinical reviews, staff meetings, supervision, and professional development. Network and promote the Headfyrst program to other services in the mental health and AOD sector. Assess risk and utilise risk management interventions, reporting, and procedures. Maintain continued professional development (CPD) activities. Attend regular clinical supervision. Adhere to the PsychBA Code of Conduct. Adhere to the Salvation Army Code of Conduct. Undertake ad hoc duties as requested by the Program Manager and Regional Manager. Acquire and maintain knowledge of clinical referral and support options for clients. Work collaboratively and professionally with other programs and services. Work effectively within a team that fosters and empowers continuous improvement. Demonstrate effective teamwork. Attend regular team meetings and 1‑2‑1 meetings with line manager. What you will bring Fully registered/provisionally registered Psychologist or registered Allied Health Professional. Clinical experience in providing evidence based treatment in therapeutic contexts. WHS – knowledge of work health safety obligations and to practice these in the workplace in line with TSA policy & procedures and legislation. Experience in the delivery of trauma informed mental health services inclusive of specialist skills in assessing, managing, and treating clients in a cross-cultural setting. AHPRA Registered Psychologist/provisional psychologist with experience. Minimum of Bachelors’ degree with honours and acceptance into a recognised psychologist registration pathway. Demonstrated experience working clinically with youth aged 16–25 years with counselling skills and experience. Demonstrated knowledge, experience, and ability to work with young people affected by issues such as drug & alcohol use, gambling, trauma, domestic violence, homelessness, anger, stress, unsafe coping behaviour, mental health presentations, and suicide risk. Comprehensive knowledge of Trauma Informed Care and Practice. Experience working with people from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander background and with people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and religions. Experience working in collaboration with other organisations. Clinical experience working with youth and within AOD treatment contexts is desirable. Current NSW Working With Children Check Current Drivers licence. A current First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain one.
