Governance and Reporting Officer – APS6 | 6 month labour hire contract | Sydney or Canberra Australian Citizens only Are you an experienced APS professional looking to step into a fast‑paced governance and parliamentary focused role? We’re recruiting an APS5 Governance & Reporting Officer on behalf of our client - a Commonwealth agency undertaking significant national work. This is a full‑time 6‑month labour‑hire contract based in either Sydney or Canberra. This role offers a rare opportunity to gain deep insight into how a government agency operates behind the scenes - from ministerial engagement and Senate Estimates preparation to corporate planning and public reporting. About the role As the Governance & Reporting Officer, you will support the agency’s governance, parliamentary and reporting functions. You’ll work closely with senior executives to prepare high quality advice, coordinate responses to parliamentary and departmental requests and contribute to major corporate documents. A significant portion of the workload involves parliamentary requests, including developing ministerial submissions, preparing briefing materials for executives and the CEO and coordinating clearance processes for Senate Estimates. Key Responsibilities Parliamentary and ministerial coordination Prepare correspondence, submissions and briefing materials including Ministerial briefs, Departmental briefs and responses to Parliamentary Questions on Notice. Coordinate the clearance process for Senate Estimates, including reviewing and contributing to briefing packs. Manage incoming email requests from the Department - triaging, coordinating responses and progressing items through approval pathways. Governance and reporting Assist with public reporting requirements, including the Corporate Plan, Annual Report, Portfolio Budget Statements and Annual Performance Statements. Support the annual business planning cycle including developing templates, managing complex spreadsheets and providing guidance to internal teams. Provide high‑level secretariat support to senior executives including preparing agenda papers, meeting notes and presentations. Additional duties Provide procurement guidance in line with the Commonwealth Procurement Rules (CPRs). Coordinate AusTender 42‑day reporting requirements. Contribute to strategic policy advice by monitoring emerging issues and developments in the health policy landscape. About You You’re someone who thrives in a structured, deadline‑driven environment and enjoys coordinating work across multiple stakeholders. You bring strong writing skills, sound judgement and the ability to manage competing priorities. Preferred experience and qualifications Previous APS experience ideally in governance, parliamentary, reporting or ministerial coordination roles. Experience preparing briefs, submissions or Senate Estimates material. Tertiary qualifications in health policy, social science, public administration, government or a related discipline. Strong organisational and communication skills.
