Responsibilities: In this role, you will work closely with our mining clients and technical teams on projects that span diverse sites with unique challenges to develop practical solutions for tailings management. Your work will include: Promote health and safety by actively participating in related standards and initiatives. Apply advanced geotechnical principles to develop and lead innovative problem-solving approaches and guide development of conceptual models in support of closure plan development and design. Participate in numerical modelling programs to assess geotechnical stability, liquefaction, and consolidation assessments. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate geotechnical aspects into project designs. Plan and complete field investigations to support tailings and mine projects as needed. Review and interpret laboratory and monitoring data to support design and execution. Support the facilitation of workshops, including risk assessments and multiple accounts analyses with various stakeholders and external project support. Interact competently with internal and external stakeholders of varying levels of expertise. Develop strong relationships with clients, foster existing client relationships, and leverage client relationships to generate new leads and opportunities or initiate referrals. Participate in the development of technical reports and proposals, including work scopes and estimation of schedule and costs. Qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree or post-graduate degree in Geotechnical (Civil or Geological) Engineering or similar discipline is required Experience in geological sciences and field investigations Demonstrated experience in tailings management, including initial assessment, modelling and design. Holds RPEQ designation or is eligible to obtain it. Experience and aptitude for multidisciplinary work and dynamic team environments. Proficiency in modelling software and relevant software packages such as GeoStudio. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential for both business and technical writing and clear and effective collaboration within project teams. Ability to oversee and lead project work within the Geotechnical discipline. Expectations for this Role: You will develop a strong understanding of material characterization, including fill and tailings materials, alongside fundamental knowledge of geotechnical design, slope stability, and seepage. Proven experience in mine and tailings operations is desired, with operational or closure experience within the industry considered an asset. Your strong written and oral communication skills will be essential, as you will engage in writing and reviewing proposals, technical reports, and regulatory submissions. You’ll build strong professional relationships with clients and actively engage in business development initiatives, exploring innovative opportunities beyond your project scope. Your insights will be vital as you communicate with our technical leaders. We take a holistic approach to decision-making, ensuring we consider financial, social, and environmental impacts on Okane. Plus, you will have the opportunity to mentor junior staff and help them grow! In our fast-paced environment, your adaptability and prioritization skills will shine as you navigate unexpected challenges. Lastly, you'll develop your critical thinking skills by formulating important insights and translating those into practical recommendations for our clients. Your ability and willingness to coordinate with staff and clients across different time zones will enhance collaboration. Experience with relevant software packages such as GeoStudio will be beneficial. You will demonstrate the ability to prioritize effectively, consider alternative solutions, and respond quickly to unexpected and changing conditions.
