The Opportunity We’re seeking an experienced Software Product Development Manager to lead the company’s software function and guide the evolution of their global product platform. This role spans web, mobile, desktop, and IoT environments, requiring a leader who can balance technical depth with team leadership and strategic thinking. You’ll shape development rhythms, improve engineering discipline, and ensure their software remains robust, reliable, and scalable- enabling customers to operate confidently in some of the most demanding aquaculture environments worldwide. Key Responsibilities First 6–12 Months – Focus Areas Establish clear development workflows and a reliable agile delivery rhythm. Baseline product performance and uplift testing discipline and software reliability. Partner with the Product Manager on planning, prioritisation, and release expectations. Build strong working relationships across R&D to support integrated product development. Coach team members, identifying capability gaps and training needs. Ongoing Responsibilities Lead and develop the software engineering and QA teams, fostering an accountable and positive culture. Oversee delivery across the software suite—web apps, mobile apps, desktop applications, and IoT systems. Maintain consistent development processes, testing standards, and documentation. Support system reliability, security awareness, and long‑term maintainability. Collaborate closely with hardware, firmware, platform, and ML teams to ensure cohesive end‑to‑end performance. Contribute to new product development with early technical insight and risk identification. Ensure engineering activities remain aligned with product priorities and business objectives. Technical Requirements Mandatory 8 years professional software engineering experience. Strong experience developing web applications using technologies such as TypeScript , Django , and React . Proficiency with relational and time‑series databases (e.g., PostgreSQL , TimescaleDB , InfluxDB ). Experience with DevOps tools and practices including CI/CD , Docker , Kubernetes . Solid understanding of version control, especially Git . Desirable: Knowledge of IT infrastructure and networking (routing, firewalls, VPNs). Experience with IoT applications or distributed sensor systems. Exposure to cloud‑native development at scale. Experience building mobile applications. About You You’re a calm, capable, and collaborative technical leader with a track record of guiding software teams through growth, complexity, and change. You balance strategic thinking with hands‑on support when needed. You communicate clearly, work constructively across disciplines, and are comfortable navigating the natural tension between product ambition and engineering reality. You bring: Demonstrated leadership experience across diverse software teams. Ability to stabilise processes and elevate delivery discipline. Strong architectural judgement and experience with system integration. A curious, practical approach and a low‑ego leadership style. Confidence working in multidisciplinary engineering environments. Location & Work Arrangements Hobart‑based role. Hybrid arrangement supported (typically 3–4 days in office, 1–2 days WFH). Due to its people‑focused nature, this role is not suitable for fully remote work . Collaboration across platform, firmware, hardware, mechanical, ML, and product teams is expected.
