The role offers excellent exposure to APS financial frameworks, governance, and compliance requirements, while working closely with internal stakeholders and external providers. It is well-suited to someone looking to further build their APS career or gain valuable government experience. This position is offered as an initial 6-month contract, with the possibility of extension. The Role As a Financial Accountant, you will play a key role in supporting a range of financial accounting responsibilities within the department. Key responsibilities include: Supporting the preparation of journals, balance sheet reconciliations, and annual financial statements. Assisting with end-to-end revenue administration, from invoicing through to debt collection. Supporting accurate and timely month-end and year-end reporting, including accruals, variance analysis, and general ledger close activities. Assisting with taxation compliance, including the preparation of BAS and FBT returns. Supporting audit statement preparation Building and maintaining effective relationships across the organisation. Assisting with other ad hoc finance tasks as required. The Ideal Person You will bring: Previous financial accounting experience, or strong financial operations experience. Strong communication skills and the ability to provide professional, client-focused service. Sound judgement and decision-making skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities. A collaborative approach, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. You are likely to be working in the APS at the APS5 level, with hands-on experience in government accounting. Candidates from a Big 4 background, with experience supporting government engagements, are also encouraged to apply. This role requires Australian citizenship, and an existing Baseline security clearance is strongly preferred.
