Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education Officers (IEOs) fulfil an important role in ACT public schools by supporting school leaders, classroom teachers and other school staff to improve their knowledge and practice of cultural integrity. This includes the development and sourcing of teaching and learning resources related to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures; and supporting schools to build relationships and understanding between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and non-Indigenous students, families, and community members. Eligibility/Other requirements: Prior to commencing this role, a current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required. This is an Identified position in accordance with Section 27(4) of the Public Sector Management Act 1994 and is only open to an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person. Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander lived experience and cultural capability is considered essential and therefore confirmation of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage may be requested.
