About the roles AS Technology Operations and Support Branch (TOSB) The Assistant Secretary, Technology Operations and Support Branch (AS TOSB) is responsible for building and operating a large and complex ICT infrastructure environment to enable the Department to achieve its strategic and operational goals. AS TOSB manages and oversees the Technology & Enabling Program (TEPB) and department technology assets including the delivery of classified systems up to SECRET level to the NZ and Australian National Security Cabinet. The AS TOSB maximises the use of resources so that front-line immigration, citizenship, travel, cargo and intelligence activities are supported by client-facing systems that are robust and evolve with the needs of the Department and the Australian Government. The position also supports and delivers large transformational work programmes to reform the way in which services are delivered worldwide. AS Visa Citizenship and Digital Systems (VCDS) The Assistant Secretary, Visa Citizenship and Digital Systems Branch (VCDS) is responsible for leading the technical delivery of the Visa and Citizenship change program as the senior supplier. The role is also responsible for providing robust enterprise technical solutions to support government priorities, whilst supporting the Department to achieve its strategic and operational goals. The Department has a broad remit, spanning immigration and citizenship, customs and trade, revenue collection, maritime security as well as compliance and enforcement activities, with almost 14,000 people working in 63 locations, including in each Australian state and territory, as well as in 50 locations worldwide. The Assistant Secretary VCDS manages critical systems that support this remit including operating the core visa and citizenship systems as well as enterprise systems that support security, compliance and trade functions. The key duties of the position include AS Technology Operations and Support Branch (TOSB) Delivering ICT infrastructure projects supporting the Home Affairs Portfolio. Providing 24/7 operational support for the border systems, visa processing, risk analytics, alert systems, corporate platforms, and classified networks. Managing and operating secure networks and systems including the Australian Secret Network (ASN), Customs Secret Network (CSN), Australian Maritime Identification System (AMIS), ABF vessel ICT environments, and Top-Secret systems. Overseeing end-user platforms such as Email, Instant Messaging, MobileIron, Citrix Virtual Desktop, F5 VPN, Windows 10 MOE, and Telecom Asset Management. Supporting network and gateway environments including LAN/WAN, F5 Load Balancers, Secure Gateway Services, Border TV, and interconnections with government agencies, business partners, and the Internet. Providing technical governance for managed network services and vendor-supported mainframe and midrange systems. Delivering enterprise-grade Windows, virtualisation, and cloud infrastructure platforms that underpin core IT systems and business applications. Maintaining data centres and server rooms across the Department. Working with a range of national security issues, including but not limited to transnational, serious and organised crime policy. AS Visa Citizenship and Digital Systems (VCDS) As technical system owner, run and operate critical departmental systems including those supporting Visa processing, citizenship applications and enterprise services Support Departmental and Divisional priorities, as required Lead the delivery of Branch projects to ensure business and technology outcomes are achieved on time and within budget Effectively manage the Branch budget and resources to ensure critical departmental systems are highly available and performant, technology assets are maintained and projects are delivered Prepare the Branch to be future ready through investing in system modernisation, adoption of contemporary work practices and effective workforce planning Establish clear enterprise technology service offerings and roadmaps to ensure enterprise functions, such as integration and performance testing, can be future ready and scalable Active and collaborative senior leader across the Technology and Data Divisions and the Digital Delivery Services Division Lead the department's technical neurodiversity entry level program.
