Business Overview Our Clients & Strategy team covers Business Development, Investor Relations, External Relations, Sustainable Investment and Brand, Marketing & Communications, including Internal Communications. It is responsible for all communications to investor prospects, existing investors and their asset consultants, as well as a broad range of other stakeholders, including governments and media. The Global External Relations Team works to positively position IFM as a pension funds owned manager investing the retirement savings of millions of workers worldwide. We achieve this through: supporting the business with integrated government, public and stakeholder relations, media, communications and reputation management, positioning IFM as a trusted partner to governments and key stakeholders, policy analysis, advice and advocacy for regulatory and policy settings that will facilitate investment opportunities and drive long-term sustainable returns, delivering strategic projects to deepen the alignment between IFM and our owners, and, building collective solutions to invest in global private markets and systems-level investing. The Role The Associate Director – Policy & Research will report to the Director, Policy and Research. You will play an important role in achieving outcomes across these functions, working collaboratively across the rest of the team and other internal and external stakeholders. Activities critical to this role include: Managing and undertaking research, writing, analysis and project management for projects and initiatives involving public policy, investment and sustainability, including thought leadership papers and submissions to public consultations Providing strategic advice on the implications of public policy, regulation and developments in the external world for IFM, our owners and the work of the Global External Relations team, Preparing and supporting IFM colleagues for engagement with civil society, policy makers, multilaterals, governments and agencies, including through briefing notes and talking points. Contributing to internal IFM governance processes and internal stakeholder relations regarding policy and strategy activity at board and staff level, including the preparation of board reports and briefing materials. Supporting the development and mentoring of junior team members and working collaboratively and proactively with team members across government and stakeholder relations and media functions, as well as colleagues across IFM. Your Background and Experience 7-10 years in public service, finance, consulting, civil society, public policy design, advocacy, or research. Experience across one or more of the following areas of public policy: Economics, foreign policy, climate change and energy, infrastructure, aviation, shipping, institutional investment, sustainable investment, capital markets, superannuation and pensions, affordable housing, real estate, with willingness to work flexibly across areas of policy. Knowledge and experience of markets outside of Australia, particularly the US, UK, Europe and Asia, will be highly valued. Tertiary qualification in public policy, law, economics or related field. Ability to apply relevant analytical frameworks to policy problems. Skills in economic, quantitative and data analysis are not essential but will be highly valued. Ability to present and communicate in a clear and compelling way, including through excellent writing. Skills in charting and PowerPoint presentations will be highly valued.
