Your New Role The role of Director, Thematic Research is to lead research assignments covering secular themes such as geopolitics, social, demographic, technological and any additional themes that stand to impact the outlook for the global economy and affect how the portfolio is positioned. Drawing on your research, you will provide actionable market and economic insights that support the Fund’s investment strategy, processes, and overall performance to benefit members. Key responsibilities include: Leading and undertaking thematic research assignments across key secular themes that stand to influence the outlook of the global economy and influence portfolio positioning; Leading department-wide thematic research projects providing a top-down macro perspective on thematic trends that stand to impact the portfolio; Providing input into identifying risks and opportunities based on secular themes; Providing research and analysis to help (add) form investment recommendations at both the total and asset class portfolio level; Working together with members of the Asset Allocation team to develop our asset allocation strategy; Working with the investment strategy team to provide thematic research to support the investment strategy for the diversified options; Assisting in the preparation of papers for at AAmix, AAG, Investment Committee (IC), the Board and external presentations that relate to secular themes as required. What You’ll Need Extensive experience working with an institutional investment manager, institutional fund/investor, investment bank or research house; Experience in undertaking significant research projects involving financial and/or economic data, either though university or in the workforce; Strong understanding of investment principles, investment instruments and the financial markets; Demonstrated strong research, quantitative modelling skills, enabling the analysis of asset class returns and portfolio construction; Solid understanding of asset class risk and return drivers and how they can be blended to build portfolios; Experience in preparation and delivery of reports and/or research findings; Experience in statistical / econometric modelling software ideal; Superior tertiary qualifications in Finance, Economics, Econometric or a related field; Postgraduate qualifications in finance or investing (e.g. CFA, CAIA, FIAA or similar).
