The Department of Justice and Community Safety is seeking 3 Senior Aboriginal Culture and Healing Officers to provide a critical role within Emergency Management. About the Business Unit Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS) Emergency Management includes the department's emergency management accountabilities delivered through Emergency Management Victoria, Emergency Recovery Victoria, Sector Performance and Reform and emergency management statutory entities and offices. The work of the group supports the emergency management sector to work together and to strengthen the capacity of individuals, communities, government, agencies and business to achieve our shared vision of safer and more resilient communities and to rebuild and recover after an emergency. Emergency Recovery Victoria (ERV) is responsible for state and regional relief and recovery coordination for all emergencies to help communities build back better and emerge stronger. ERV is a business unit within the Department of Justice and Community Safety. Working directly with impacted communities, all levels of government, agencies and industry, ERV coordinates real, effective and timely support that communities need to recover after a major emergency. As well as providing strategic leadership on whole-of-government recovery activities and delivering state recovery outcomes, ERV supports locally led relief and recovery efforts through support to councils, ensuring that community is at the centre of recovery. About the Role Reporting to the Reginal Director this role focuses on engagement with Aboriginal organisations to build understanding of how ERV's relief and recovery activities and programs can meet the needs of Aboriginal people who have been affected by natural and other disasters. Some of your duties will include: Promote the incorporation of Aboriginal cultural practices into relief and recovery initiatives Collaborate with Aboriginal leaders, elders, and community organisations to design and implement culturally relevant programs Build and maintain strong relationships with Aboriginal organisations and Traditional Owners to understand community needs and priorities. Support the development and oversight of programs that support the emotional, spiritual, and cultural healing of Aboriginal people in the aftermath of an emergency Facilitate the provision of training and support to Aboriginal organisations to build capability in areas such as emergency management, relief and recovery strategies and cultural healing practices. About you To be successful in this role, you will have: Demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal people and communities, displaying strong understanding of Aboriginal culture, traditions and healing practices Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the societal and cultural issues impacting the Aboriginal people and communities An understanding of the Victorian Traditional Owner framework and the network of Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations and their relationship to Government. Demonstrated experience in partnership-based program development and management, particularly in culturally sensitive contexts Qualifications/requirements Experience or qualifications related to community development, indigenous studies or emergency management Experience in disaster relief and/or recovery or other related activity in emergency management A strong understanding of the processes and systems as they apply to government. A Victorian Driver's Licence and ability to travel as required is a requirement of this role.
