About the role As a Specialist Hire Controller, you'll report to the Specialist Manager and work within our wider Distribution Centre (DC) team. Several specialist businesses operate within the DC, benefiting from shared logistics, repair, and maintenance functions. This role focuses on delivering customer-centric solutions by showcasing expertise in our specialist equipment and meeting customer expectations. We're looking for two motivated Hire Controllers to join our afternoon and night shift operations at our Sydney Distribution Centre located in Penrith. This is a fast-paced, after-hours role supporting urgent equipment and machinery requirements across NSW. You'll be the calm voice on the phone managing breakdowns, urgent replacements and overnight hire requests. Working closely with our Afternoon and Night Shift HR Drivers, you'll coordinate rapid equipment solutions, often against tight deadlines and strict service KPIs. What You'll Be Doing Managing after-hours phone calls for urgent breakdowns and equipment requirements Answering calls within KPI timeframes Coordinating urgent equipment delivery within a specified service window Sourcing equipment from the Penrith DC or branch network Creating hire contracts, invoices and purchase orders Liaising closely with HR Drivers to coordinate deliveries and collections Managing multiple priorities calmly and efficiently under pressure Provide exceptional customer service, living up to our "Every Customer a Raving Fan" value. When call volumes are low, you'll also assist with: Administrative tasks Preparing orders for the day shift Yard or equipment preparation and basic cleaning duties About you Previous experience in a customer service role, and a genuine interest in helping others Strong experience in sales administration Previous experience in hire, logistics, operations or customer service (highly regarded) Strong communication skills and confidence handling urgent situations Ability to stay calm, focused and decisive in high-pressure environments Excellent time management and attention to detail Comfortable using computer systems for contracts, invoicing and administration Ability to work either the afternoon or night shift A strong safety and customer-first mindset Join our team You can always tell someone who works at Kennards Hire.
