Financial Controller Construction | $500m Revenue | Privately Owned | Future Deputy CFO Location: CBD, NSW (5 days in office) Salary: $190,000 - $200,000 Super Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent Employment Type: Full-time, Permanent The Business Our client is a privately held, high-growth construction business with annual revenue of approximately $500 million and a workforce of around 180 employees. The business continues to expand its project portfolio and has ambitious growth plans over the coming years. With a strong ownership group and an experienced CFO, the business is now seeking a Financial Controller to take ownership of financial control, lead the transactional finance team, and play a key role in strategic decision-making at board level. This role has a clear short-term pathway to Deputy CFO. The Role Reporting directly to the CFO, the Financial Controller will be responsible for end-to-end financial control across the business while managing a team of three transactional staff. This is a senior, visible role requiring someone comfortable operating strategically with the CFO and owners, while also remaining hands-on and close to the detail. This role is suited to a finance leader with deep construction industry experience who understands the complexities of project-based accounting, WIP, revenue recognition, cash flow volatility and commercial risk inherent in the sector. Key Responsibilities Full end-to-end financial control of the business Monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting Budgeting, forecasting and detailed cash flow management Project accounting including WIP, cost-to-complete, margin analysis and revenue recognition Oversight of payroll, accounts payable and accounts receivable through direct management of three transactional staff Partnering with project and operational teams to drive financial performance Preparation of board-level reporting and insights for the CFO and owners Supporting the CFO on strategic initiatives, growth planning and commercial decision-making Continuous improvement of financial systems, controls and processes Acting as a senior finance leader across the business Essential Experience and Requirements Significant experience working in the construction industry in Australia is essential Hands-on experience using JobPac is essential Applications without construction industry experience and JobPac experience will not be considered Proven experience in a Financial Controller or equivalent senior finance role Strong understanding of project-based accounting and construction-specific financial challenges Experience working locally in Australia with strong knowledge of Australian accounting standards Australian Permanent Residency or Citizenship with full working rights This role is not open to overseas applicants and sponsorship is not available About You Confident operating at board and ownership level with a strong, pragmatic communication style Able to balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution Strong people management skills with experience leading and developing junior finance staff Commercially minded and comfortable operating in a fast-paced, growth-focused environment CPA or CA qualification highly regarded Why Apply Senior leadership role in a large, privately owned construction business Clear short-term pathway to Deputy CFO Competitive salary of $190,000-$200,000 Super High level of influence and exposure to CFO and owners Stable, well-established business with ambitious growth plans Please reach out to Brad.rosser@roberthalf.com.au if you have any questions or for a confidential chat.
