About the organisation: Our client is well-established education provider based in Sydney and they are seeking a Payroll Officer to join their Finance team. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing across the school network and will report directly to the Payroll Manager. This is a full-time, contract position for 6-12months based in Southern Sydney with a competitive salary depending on experience. Key Responsibilities: Process all payroll transactions, including salaries, allowances, bonuses, deductions, and tax obligations, ensuring accuracy and timeliness. Handle complex leave requests, including parental leave and workers’ compensation, and ensure they are processed correctly. Maintain employee payroll records and verify data to ensure compliance with relevant legislation. Conduct reconciliations of leave balances and manage end-of-employment processes. Work closely with HR and Finance teams to resolve payroll queries and provide support to staff as required. Contribute to improvements in payroll processes and participate in system upgrades or new initiatives. Prepare and issue payroll-related documentation, such as employment verification letters and leave statements, and ensure proper filing. Keep abreast of changes to payroll laws, regulations, and best practice standards to maintain compliance. Skills and Experience: Experience working in the Education sector with knowledge of CMEA is advantageous Experience using Aurion is preferred Minimum of 2 years’ experience in payroll processing in a fast-paced environment. Strong understanding of payroll legislation, compliance requirements, and enterprise agreements, ideally within education. Proficient in payroll software and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel. High attention to detail and strong analytical skills to identify and resolve discrepancies. Excellent organisation, time management, and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively.
