The role Our client is seeking a Principal Hardware Engineer to take technical ownership of their IoT devices from concept through to production. This is a senior, hands-on role combining deep technical delivery with function-level leadership, working closely with external manufacturers, test labs, and partners. A core focus of the role is using AI and automation to accelerate development, improve quality, and scale output before adding headcount. Key responsibilities Lead hardware architecture, PCB design, and embedded firmware development Deliver production-ready designs (schematics, multi-layer PCB, RF, power) in Altium Define reusable hardware and firmware platforms Design automated test, regression, and production test systems Own certification activities (EMC/EMI, CE, RF) and manage external labs Act as technical owner for CM/CEM engagement and production readiness Identify and manage technical, supply, and certification risk Build lightweight engineering discipline suited to a scale-up About you Proven experience delivering industrial IoT or connected devices end-to-end Strong PCB design skills (RF and power) using Altium Strong embedded firmware experience in C/C++ Experience with automated testing and production test strategies Comfortable working in a fast-moving, resource-lean environment Desirable: experience with cellular, BLE, GNSS, LoRa, and scaling device platforms.
