Legal Counsel A broad, hands-on legal role supporting a dynamic national business About the Opportunity We are seeking an experienced and commercially oriented Legal Counsel to provide high-quality legal advice and support across the organisation. Reporting to the Chief of Finance, Commercial and Shared Services, with a functional connection to the CEO, this role is the primary in-house legal contact and works closely with teams across the business to support strong commercial outcomes and sound decision-making. As the sole legal practitioner, you will manage a varied workload—including commercial contracting, equipment hire agreements, procurement arrangements, property leases, dispute matters, and compliance requirements. You will also help maintain and improve the organisation’s legal and governance frameworks, ensuring we meet our regulatory obligations and operate with confidence. Key Responsibilities In this role, you will: Provide timely, practical, and commercially focused legal advice to internal stakeholders. Identify, assess, and manage legal and regulatory risks across the business. Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of contracts, including procurement, services, equipment hire, and property leases. Support tenders, commercial initiatives, and major projects by providing legal insight and risk assessment. Assist in the management of disputes, claims, and regulatory matters, including coordination with external law firms where required. Develop and maintain legal and compliance policies, governance frameworks, and organisational standards. Monitor legislative and regulatory developments and communicate relevant changes to the business. Build strong working relationships across different teams to ensure legal considerations are well understood and integrated into business activities. About You You will be a strong fit for this role if you have: A Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or Juris Doctor (JD), with admission to practice in Australia. 5–10 years’ post-qualification experience in commercial or corporate law, gained in-house or in private practice. Strong experience in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial agreements. A practical approach to providing legal advice that supports operational and commercial outcomes. Confidence working independently and managing a broad range of legal issues. The ability to communicate clearly and build credibility with stakeholders at all levels. Highly organised and self-driven individual who can manage competing priorities. A solutions-focused mindset and the capability to balance legal risk with commercial practicality. Why Join Us?
