About us The Department of Government Services (DGS) was established on 1 January 2023 to improve everyone's experience of doing business and interacting with the Victorian government. About the role The Worker Screening Unit (WSU) is responsible for administering the Worker Screening Act 2020 by processing applications for Working with Children Checks and NDIS Worker Screening Checks. The role of an Initial Assessment Officer is to conduct preliminary assessments of Working with Children Check and NDIS Worker Screening applications and Clearance holders with criminal records or relevant professional findings. Initial Assessment Officers provide legislative support to the operational teams through the use of expert knowledge and carry out quality assurance functions across their work. Initial Assessment Officers also regularly engage with a range of stakeholders in both written and verbal formats to seek and clarify information. Key accountabilities include: Undertaking accurate and timely initial assessments of WWC Check and NDIS Worker Screening applications and reassessments. Managing the ChildCheck and DisCheck databases' requirements for initial assessments. Communicate with applicants and Clearance holders in relation to their WWC Check and NDIS Worker Screening applications and reassessments. Collate data and statistics and assisting with data analysis and performance reporting. About you To be considered for the role, you must be able to demonstrate: Technical Expertise: Demonstrated experience in working with a range of legislation and the ability to interpret and apply its principles in a range of settings. Technical Expertise: Proven capacity to function as a part of a high performing team and contribute to the operational objectives in a challenging environment. Technical Expertise: Advanced Computer Skills – Demonstrated knowledge of computerised systems and experience in the use of database systems and Microsoft applications. Resilience: Gives frank and honest feedback/advice. Listens when ideas are challenged, seeks to understand the nature of criticism and respond constructively; displays confidence and conviction when communicating an opinion. Critical Thinking and Problem Solving: Resolves issues through deep understanding or interpretation of existing guidelines. Where guidelines are not available, analyses ideas available and takes action through self, or in consultation with others to resolve problems. If required, determine additional information needed to make informed decisions. Applies critical thinking and problem-solving concepts in the right context Promote Inclusion: Pays attention to words, expression and body language; recognises behaviours that promote a culture of inclusion. Hold self and team accountable towards being inclusive to individuals from diverse backgrounds. Takes corrective actions when behaviours displayed do not promote an inclusive workplace.
