Description EDL owns and operates a global portfolio of power stations in Australia, North America and Europe. Our vision is to be the leading global producer of sustainable distributed energy. At EDL, we are playing a key role in the world’s transition from traditional energy sources to decarbonised solutions. As the Alarm Management Engineer/Specialist you are responsible for developing and improving alarm configuration for sites being migrated into Central SCADA. The role focuses on extracting and interpreting control-system logic ("cause & effects"), defining meaningful alarms, improving existing site alarm behaviour, and ensuring alarms align with operational needs and EDL’s alarm standard based on IEC 62682 / ISA 18.2. Key Areas of Responsibility Review existing site alarms and identify opportunities to improve quality, prioritisation, and relevance before migration to Central SCADA. Extract, interpret, and document cause & effect behaviour from PLC logic, control narratives, and existing SCADA systems. Develop Central SCADA alarm definitions including conditions, priorities, deadbands, and response text. Lead alarm rationalisation sessions with Operations, OT, Engineering, and Global Control Centre (GCC). Map site-level alarms to Central SCADA standards and naming conventions. Assist with building and maintaining the Master Alarm Database. Create or update alarm-related documentation such as cause & effect diagrams and alarm lists. Work with Operations, Maintenance, OT, and Engineering teams to ensure alarm behaviour supports safe and reliable operations. Review alarm journals and nuisance alarms to recommend corrective actions. In addition to alarm management responsibilities, the role will provide operational support for a portion of the workload. This includes assisting with site performance reviews, supporting incident investigations, reviewing operational data for trends, and helping Operations and the GCC with technical queries related to process behaviour, control logic, and equipment performance. This operational involvement enriches the role, builds deeper understanding of EDL’s assets, and ensures alarm configuration and rationalisation are grounded in real plant conditions and operational realities. Owner of the Central SCADA Alarm philosophy and standards (IEC 62682 / ISA 18.2) Actively ensure own health and safety and the health and safety of others through understanding and implementing workplace health and safety obligations Support and comply with Company policies and procedures as advised and documented in the Company’s employment policies as amended from time to time and as directed by Managers/Supervisors. In addition to the duties set out above, you may be expected to perform other duties as assigned from time to time by the Company Person Specification Strong practical experience with PLC logic (ladder, structured text, function blocks). Ability to trace logic to determine causes, effects, interlocks, and operating sequences. Experience developing or modifying SCADA alarms. Analytical mindset capable of identifying alarm trends and improvement opportunities. Ability to understand equipment behaviour and translate it into meaningful alarms. Collaborate effectively with stakeholders across IT, OT, Engineering, Operations, the Global Control Centre, and the Analytics teams to develop and refine alarms and operational responses for the Central SCADA platform. Build strong working relationships and communicate clearly with both technical and non ‑ technical audiences, including confidently presenting findings or recommendations. Apply pragmatic, risk ‑ based judgement when assessing alarm behaviour, operational issues, and system changes. Operate effectively in a dynamic environment with shifting priorities, managing multiple tasks while maintaining delivery quality. Demonstrate strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy in alarm configuration, documentation, and cause ‑ and ‑ effect interpretation. Maintain high personal work standards, showing initiative, ownership, and motivation to achieve team and organisational objectives. Work collaboratively with multi ‑ disciplinary teams and show willingness to travel to sites and work flexibly when required. Qualifications & Experience 3 to 5 years of experience in SCADA, control systems, operations, instrumentation, electrical, or PLC/RTU environments, with the ability to interpret control logic and understand equipment and process behaviour. Familiarity with alarm ‑ management principles and relevant standards (e.g., ISA 18.2 or AS IEC 62682) is desirable but not essential, as EDL’s established alarm standards provide the required guidance. Ability to design or assess alarms that are meaningful, actionable, and support early intervention to minimise operational disruptions. Practical understanding of how plant systems behave during normal and abnormal operating conditions, ideally gained through operational, control room, maintenance, or technical field experience. Commitment to ongoing learning and staying current with evolving alarm ‑ management practices, tools, and operational technologies. Formal engineering qualifications are not required. Experienced operators, technicians, or control ‑ systems personnel with strong practical skills are encouraged to apply. Relevant industry certifications (e.g., electrical, instrumentation, automation, SCADA) are advantageous but not mandatory.
