About the role As Internal Audit Manager – HSE, you’ll lead the development and delivery of AGL’s Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Audit Program. Your work will provide independent assurance over high-risk areas and deliver practical, commercially focused recommendations that drive continuous improvement. This role offers exposure to senior leadership, involvement in key operations and projects, and opportunities to contribute beyond HSE audits. You’ll travel to operational sites and will make a tangible impact on health, safety and environment across AGL. This role is open to candidates with full/unrestricted Australian Working Rights and can be based out of Sydney or Melbourne. What You'll Be Doing: Shape the Audit Strategy - Design and lead the annual HSE Audit Planning process, collaborating with internal teams and industry peers. - Contribute to the development of the Group Audit’s Strategy and evolving the maturity of Group Audit practices. Execute the Audit Plan - Execute high-quality audits that provide clear assurance and actionable insights to strengthen HSE processes and compliance. - Engage and manage consultants to provide subject matter expertise, where required. - Ensure all work is performed and documented in compliance with established Group Audit Methodology and IIA standards. Partner for Impact - Engage with senior leaders and operational teams throughout audits to assess controls and foster a culture of continuous improvement. Lead with influence - Present findings confidently to management, ensuring transparency in written and verbal communication. Develop commercially focussed recommendations for improvement. - Develop key insights from audits for reporting to ARMC and SSC. - Actively contribute to the profile and strategic direction of the Group Audit team. Drive risk mitigation - Monitor and verify completion of audit actions, reporting progress to leadership and governance committees. Expand your Expertise - Contribute to audits beyond HSE, gaining exposure to operational and strategic projects across AGL including assurance and advisory work beyond the Audit Plan. What You'll Bring: Deep HSE knowledge in high-risk and/or engineering focused industry. Strong understanding of relevant regulatory, risk and management system frameworks. Familiar with Institute of Internal Audit Global Standards. 5 years experience engaging senior stakeholders, with an ability to present cases for change and improvement. Strong verbal and written communication skills (e.g. meetings, audit reports, etc). Ability to manage a high-volume and changing workloads, prioritise requirements with team management and provide guidance and input into several areas simultaneously.
