About the Division The Security and Emergency Management Division's purpose is to lead security and emergency management functions for the Department and lead and support educational communities to be physically and psychologically safe through the provision of expert advice and support services. About the Unit The Capability and Response Unit responsible for the development and implementation of policies and resources to assist regions, children's services and schools prepare for, respond to and recover from emergencies. The Unit provides leadership in coordinating the Department's response to emergencies and represents the Department on the State Emergency Management Team and other whole of Victorian government emergency management planning forums. About the role – Ongoing, Full-time, 1 position available The Senior Emergency Management Officer leads emergency management capability development, policy implementation, project management and the provision of advice to stakeholders and senior management within the Department of Education to support the safety of Victorian education communities. The primary focus is on driving improvements and organisational maturity in emergency management practice across schools, early childhood and corporate environments. The role will work as part of a team in a dynamic environment alongside a range of stakeholders within the education and emergency management sectors. This may involve some travel and representation of the department at external meetings and forums. The role may be required to work shift work, and be available outside of business hours to support the department and whole of government emergency management operations. This is anticipated to occur infrequently at times of significant emergencies.
