Why this role matters The Salvation Army (Salvos) is one of the largest providers of homelessness services across the country. Our philosophy is that every person should be afforded dignity and respect and that no one should be without a safe, affordable, and secure home. We provide services and supports to adults, and families with accompanying children in the form of accommodation, case management, assertive outreach, financial assistance, community connection and referral services. About the role As an Initial Assessment and Planning Worker, this is your opportunity to provide rapid crisis intervention and interim support to people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness to access safe, affordable accommodation and prevent their return to the homelessness service system. In delivering this work, you will be guided by the aims, objectives and values of The Salvation Army, the Homelessness National Model of Care, and the guidelines provided by the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing, ensuring practice is ethical, consistent and person-centred. Reporting to the Team Leader, this is a permanent full-time role, located in Nunawading, VIC. How you will make an impact Deliver IAP services in alignment with The Salvation Army’s National Homelessness Stream Model of Care, funding guidelines, accreditation standards and program specific frameworks, including initial assessment, housing information and short-term or interim responses and support. Provide ongoing, holistic and sensitive interim support to clients throughout their period of engagement, including meetings, housing applications, coaching and referrals that respond to individual needs and goals and promote self-determination and participation. Support clients to access, navigate and engage with a range of internal and external services and ensure clients are informed of The Salvation Army’s commitment to safety, inclusion and the rights of LGBTIQA people. Represent The Salvation Army professionally by adhering to organisational policies, procedures and the Code of Conduct and by actively participating in team meetings and maintaining effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Maintain accurate client records and reporting, complete administrative tasks to a high standard, use systems and technology effectively and identify and report risks in accordance with Workplace Health and Safety legislation and organisational requirements What you will bring A Tertiary qualification in social work, welfare or related field or relevant experience Demonstrated experience in working with vulnerable people A VIC Drivers Licence and employee Working with Children’s check What we offer The Salvos offer eligible employee's a well-balanced package of meaningful benefits including: Salary packaging up to $15,900 tax free $2,650 meal entertainment benefit.
