Job Description Griffith University is seeking a strategic and experienced Senior Lead – Cyber Security to lead our operational cyber defence capabilities within the Digital Solutions division. Reporting to the Deputy Director – Cyber Security, this role is responsible for overseeing the university’s team of security analysts and the managed Security Operations Centre (SOC), ensuring Griffith’s digital environment remains secure, resilient, and responsive to emerging threats. This is a leadership position that combines technical expertise with people management, operational oversight, and strategic alignment. You will play a key role in shaping Griffith’s cyber security posture, driving continuous improvement, and fostering a culture of excellence and accountability. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: Lead and manage Griffith’s internal team of cyber security analysts, providing mentorship, performance management, and professional development. Oversee the operations of the managed Security Operations Centre (SOC), ensuring effective threat monitoring, incident response, and escalation processes. Coordinate and enhance operational frameworks, playbooks, and procedures to support consistent and high-quality cyber defence. Drive vulnerability management and remediation activities across Griffith’s digital infrastructure. Provide expert cyber security advice and guidance to staff and students, promoting awareness and best practices. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to align cyber security operations with business priorities, compliance obligations, and strategic goals. Support the Deputy Director – Cyber Security in planning, reporting, and governance activities related to cyber risk and resilience. About you Demonstrated experience in leading cyber security teams and managing SOC operations in complex environments. Strong technical background in threat detection, incident response, and security technologies (e.g., SIEM, SOAR, EDR, firewalls). Proven ability to lead and inspire teams, manage competing priorities, and deliver results under pressure. Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills. Relevant qualifications in cyber security, information technology, or related fields. Certifications such as CISSP, CISM, or GIAC are highly desirable. Desirable: Professional certifications including CISSP and/or CISM Experience in team mentoring and developing staff capability. A working knowledge of cyber security threat trends, hunting and analysis techniques. Experience working in a Higher Education environment. What we can offer This is a full-time fixed-term opportunity for two years based at Brisbane South (Nathan). As Griffith is a multi-campus University you may be required to work across other locations. Griffith University’s campuses are located on the lands of the Yugarabul, Yuggera, Jagera, Turrbal, Yugambeh and Kombumerri peoples. HEW 10 salary $142,222 per annum plus 17% superannuation. Total remuneration package $166,399.
