About us The Queensland Fire Department (QFD) provides fire prevention, preparedness and response services to fire in the built and landscape environments, as well as scientific and specialist capabilities to Queensland communities. The QFD provides a multi-hazard emergency response, including road crash rescue, bushfire, hazardous material, technical and vertical rescue, severe weather incidents, remote and swiftwater rescue, and provides a number of functions supporting community safety outcomes. The department encompasses Queensland Fire and Rescue (QFR), Rural Fire Service Queensland (RFSQ), as well as the broader department which work together to pre-empt, prevent, mitigate and manage the consequences of fires and other emergencies on Queensland communities and support our large volunteer membership across the state. Purpose of the role Fire Communications Managers are responsible for: Leadership and management of regional Fire Communications Centre operations including staffing and deployment, financial and budget management and human resource management to ensure effective, efficient and timely mobilisation of resources to emergency incidents; and Contributing to regional and state-wide strategic and operational planning processes. Key requirements Mandatory requirements Eligible to apply for, or hold a current Blue Card; Current holder of Certificate III in Public Safety (Emergency Communications Centre Operations); and Ability to successfully complete training programs of the Communications Training and Professional Development Program (CTPDP) at the prescribed level. Highly desirable requirements Previous experience in emergency service related operational communications centre. Have or ability to obtain Apply First Aid and CPR certificates. Typing speed of 45wpm with 95% accuracy. Your key accountabilities Your part in the ongoing success of our department, in providing key frontline services will see you responsible for a variety of work, including, but not limited to: Develop and implement best practice strategies, directions and objectives in relation to regional communication matters for enhancing services to the community and monitoring and reporting outcomes against performance targets. Provide leadership and management support to Fire Communication Supervisors working within a 24/7 Fire Communication Centre. Manage and lead multi-functional work teams in a critical communications facility ensuring it is well resourced, organised and capable by following effective human resource and financial management practices and principles. Effectively develop and maintain the centre budget and manage the expenditures within the budget framework. Contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of regional strategic plans, regional operational plans, regional policies and procedures to ensure the effective and proactive management of service delivery. Contribute to state-wide operational planning activities and the development of training programs, policies and business enhancement initiatives to ensure consistency and effectiveness of Communications operations across QFD. Ensure timely responses are prepared to complaints, ministerial inquiries and requests for information. Lead organisational change initiatives including staff consultation to achieve vision, goals and direction of QFD. Represent the Regional communications centre to industry, community and government groups to promote a positive image of the Regional communications centre ensuring positive working relationships with all key stakeholders and the community. Provide leadership and management support to all QFD staff to drive the pursuit of WH&S performance excellence, facilitating the growth of a WH&S culture.
