This well-structured rotation provides broad exposure within a supportive, FACEM-led training environment. The Position This rotation offers high-quality, hands-on critical care experience across the following placements: 6 Months – Anaesthetics (ACEM-Accredited Critical Care Term) Focus on advanced airway management, procedural skills and perioperative critical care Experience across three operating theatres and a 4-bed High Dependency Unit (HDU) Strong consultant supervision within an accredited training framework 6 Months – Emergency Medicine FACEM-led Emergency Department Exposure to a broad adult and paediatric case mix Opportunity to consolidate resuscitation, leadership and decision-making skills Optional 6 Months – Retrieval Medicine Available subject to prerequisites and credentialing Hands-on exposure to Pre-Hospital and Retrieval Medicine Ideal for trainees seeking additional critical care and retrieval experience The Location Located in a coastal city in Queensland, this region is known for its beautiful harbour, tropical climate and relaxed lifestyle. The area offers: Excellent work–life balance Outdoor activities including boating, fishing and island exploration Family-friendly community with affordable housing A welcoming environment for both individuals and families This 79-bed regional hospital provides an excellent training environment with: Approximately 36,500 ED presentations annually, including 25% paediatric cases A diverse case mix supporting strong clinical exposure Comprehensive services: Emergency, general medicine and surgery, orthopaedics, obstetrics and maternity, gynaecology, coronary care, palliative care, neonatal nursery, pathology and paediatrics Surgical activity: Approximately 1,600 surgical cases per year across three operating theatres Advanced care: 36-bed mixed medical and surgical ward 4-bed High Dependency Unit for close monitoring and retrieval preparation Applicants must meet the following criteria: MBBS or equivalent, eligible for AHPRA registration at Level 3 supervision ACEM Advanced Trainees preferred Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification Competent Authority pathway candidates with minimum 3 years’ experience in ED and/or ICU encouraged to apply
