The key duties of the position include The Role The role will be required to manage a contractor who provides International Freight Forwarding services including Australian and international customs clearance processes, quarantine, import and export regulations and general issues relating to importation and exportation of technical and military equipment. It is important to have a sound understanding of import tariffs and tariff concessions and free trade agreements. The role is required to manage an international freight forwarding contract, including performance monitoring and the verification of contractor invoices. This role is eligible for an additional remuneration benefit known in Defence as a Building Defence Capability Payment (BDCP). This enables Defence to provide a premium, in addition to the base salary otherwise payable under the Defence Enterprise Collective Agreement (DECA), for positions in occupational disciplines/classifications that are critical to Defence capability. For further information, please contact the contact officer. About our Team Industry Integration Branch (IIB) is an enabling function of Joint Logistics Command (JLC). IIB supports the delivery of contracted logistics services including integrated Joint logistics warehousing, distribution, maintenance and support services. IIB manages Logistics Services Panels supporting Australian Defence Force (ADF) Operations, Activities and Investments (OAIs). The team also manages a number of operational contracts, including the Global Freight Forwarding contract. Our Ideal Candidate Our ideal candidate will be Melbourne based and have had experience in managing International Freight Forwarding services, and be familiar with all aspects of the import and export of military equipment including weapons and explosives or be willing to learn/acquire these skills in a timely manner. The ideal candidate will also have experience working in a commercial environment with contractual mechanisms while being open to learning about new processes, which are unique to this organisation. The ideal candidate will be resilient, capable and resourceful while producing superior work outputs in an effective and efficient manner. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working across technological means where face-to-face interaction is not always possible. The services are provided by a contractor and as such, contract management is an essential skill as well as a sound understanding of import tariffs and tariff concessions and free trade agreements or be willing to learn/acquire these skills in a timely manner. Experience with the management of international freight forwarding contracts including performance monitoring and the verification of contractor invoices is also important.
